Product Description

malibu-wakeboard-tower.jpgThe Big Air Cuda wakeboard tower is Big Air's premier, radical forward swept design wakeboard tower. This wakeboard tower is on par with any OEM tower you would get from the major companies like Malibu, Moomba, and Centurion but without the inflated price! This rack has all the goodies such as a high polish finish, universal mounts, ultra-rigid frame, and swiveling rope head.

Between the 2.25" diameter aluminum tubing, built in corner trusses, and machine welded joints, this tower is designed to take a beating! Whether you are pulling a hard charging wakeboarder loading up lots of line tension, slinging around tubers, or riding through heavy seas, this rack will remain rattle-free and stable. The high quality 6061 T6 aluminum ensures the Cuda tower rack is lightweight yet incredibly sturdy.

One of the coolest features about the Big Air Cuda tower is its ease of integration with Big Air racks. The Cuda tower has built in mounts that accept Big Air's series of single bolt racks. This is awesome because it means setting up a complete tower and rack system is super convenient. No need to stress over clamp sizing and proper alignment, there is literally only one bolt standing in the way between you and a working rack system! We carry all of Big Air's one-bolt racks - we recommend checking out the Big Air Wakeboard Rack | Aluminum

Another great feature of the Cuda wakeboard tower is its 7ft height! This height gives you ton of clearance below without fear of bumping your head. This is especially handy when you have speakers and lights all hooked up to your tower. Additionally, a tall tower means more upward pull for your wakeboarders which means more hangtime and bigger air!

Why do I need a wakeboard boat tower?

Wakeboard tower racks might seem like an expensive add-on for your boat. But once you've spent a season out on the water with a wakeboard tower, you'll wish you had gotten one sooner. Wakeboard towers were orginally designed to provide a higher anchor point for the rope to attach to. This higher attachment point meant bigger air for wakeboarders because the rope pulled up instead of down on the rider when they flew through the air.

Now, wakeboard towers are so much more than that. No longer is the wakeboard tower an elite wakeboarder tool, but it is now a general utilitarian device for almost all boat owners. Adding a tower to your boat is like adding an addition to your house - it gives you more space. Wakeboards, kneeboards, wakesurf boards can all be stored up in tower racks to free up a ton of room on your boat's floor. Additionally, with tower speakers and lights you have features that were never possible before.

Tower arrived quickly and was relatively easy to install. Tower looks great on the boat and love the integrated, single bolt, angle adjustable rack mounts. Free shipping made the rack a better value than purchasing from OEM.

Q:
I'm worried about the tower leg landing points damaging my boat. Specifically, I'm concerned that the stress from the tower will cause cracks in the fiberglass. How do I know if my 20ft Bayliner Capri is suitable for this tower?

A:

Cracking near the tower legs is a valid concern, but can be easily addressed with proper installation of your tower. When doing the installation of a Big Air tower, the manufacturer requires the hull to be AT LEAST 3/8" thick. If the hull is not 3/8" thick, you will need to reinforce the hull. You can reinforce with flat sheet metal (aluminum or stainless), marine grade plywood, or even additional fiberglass. In most cases,1/4" thick reinforcement is more than sufficient. When reinforcing, it is best to cover a large area, about 6" x 9". We understand you are working with a small area and sometimes that large of an area cannot be done. Work with what you have to ensure you are at or above 3/8" thick. If you follow these guidelines, and Big Air's other installation instructions (included) then you shouldn't have any cracking issues.

Q:
Can I tow two inflatables (tubes) with this tower?

A:
No, as tempting as it may be, pulling inflatables with this tower is not recommended. Whether it be one or two inflatables, the manufacturer does NOT recommend it. Instead, you should tow inflatables off a back cleat. The tower is more than capable of handling the stress of towing inflatables, but to ensure there is no damage your boat's hull you should not tow inflatables.

Q:
You mention to contact you if boat wider than 103". I need 116" -108". I like the 'Cuda model most.

A:
For wide boats, first double-check the width of where you want to mount the tower. This area is usually narrower than the beam width of your boat. If you verify it is wider than 103" where you want to mount the tower, contact us again for what options are available for this tower & your boat.

Q:
I am looking for a Big air Cuda Tower , however my width requirement is a bit wider than the 103" offered. Is this something we can consider?

A:
Yes, it is possible that the Cuda Tower could work for your boat. One question, are you able to trailer your boat on the road? If so, it is most likely not over 103" and that will help determine whether Cuda could work for it.

We also recommend you measure (or remeasure) where you want to mount the tower. In most cases, where you mount the tower is much narrower than the beam width of your boat. If you find it is still over 103" where you will mount the tower, contact us again, as we may be able to provide further options that allow the Cuda to work for your boat.

Also, for boats up to 108" wide, you might want to consider the Vapor or X towers.

Q:
Does this tower fold down?

A:
Yes, the CUDA wakeboard tower folds down in minutes -- one person can quickly and easily fold this tower below windshield height.

Q:
What is the difference in the three finishes?

A:
The CUDA Wakeboard Towers are made of a very strong aluminum, and so the basic option is a polished aluminum finish, that is just the tower, polished. As is, the aluminum is strong and rust-resistant by nature; it is able to withstand a marine or freshwater environment.

However, the anodized aluminum finish is an application/process that adds another layer of rust-oxidation prevention to the aluminum; it also is visually is desired by some, some people like that look, and it technically can help make the aluminum stronger.

Last, the black powder coat finish offers a bit of extra rust protection as well, but it is mostly a finish for the look - for some people, they want a black finished tower for their boat because they like the look/style. Additionally, it may be slightly cooler to the touch on a very hot day, but I can't guarantee that it really helps with that.

So after the basic polished aluminum version, you have two that are for style and some extra protection (and in anodized, some extra strengthening). The price will increase a bit for the anodized version.

Q:
I have a bimini top - will this tower fit?

A:
Most biminis fit under this tower, however if you have one, check these dimensions and contact us to let us know what they are:

Width of the boat where the front legs of the tower will attach;
Width of the boat where the rear legs of the tower will attach;
Height of the bimini from thetower mountlocations: and
Width of bimini at the top.

We will thenverify if the tower will work with your boat's bimini.

Q:
Is it compatible with a '96 ski sanger?

A:
To determine if theCuda Towercould work for your boat, you need to look at your boat's measurements. The Cuda Tower fits most boats from72-103" wide. That would be a place to start. If your boat is narrower or wider than that, or if it has a bimini, we would need to know what the measurements are, to see if it is possible. If you have a bimini, we would also need some other measurements to determine if it will fit.

Q:
Will this tower work well with my Crownline DB238 deck boat? I would like to mount it toward the back of the boat like I see most deckboats towers.

A:
The Cuda Tower should fit your deckboat without issues. From what it looks like, based on the specs on that boat, you would be able to mount the tower at a point under 102 inches wide. We would recommend that you measure where you plan on mounting the tower, to ensure that it will fit within the tower's width range, which is 72-103 inches wide, as well as checking internally to ensure clear access for the mounting hardware below those mounting points.

Q:
How many inches are the mounts apart Front to Back?

A:
The distance between the front and back mount on the Cuda Wakeboard Tower is approximately 38 inches.

Q:
I have a 2006 Glastron DX 235 and this appears as though it will fit. However, i don't see how it will collapse, and this will be important in order for me to be able to store it.

A:
The Big Air Cuda Tower (Forward Swept) only take a few moments to break down/collapse, following these instructions:

To lay the tower down:
1. Loosen the shoulder bolts in the front swivels and bases approximately 1 turn.
2. Remove the shoulder bolt from the swivel on the rear mount.
3. Slowly lower the tower forward (pivoting on the front mounts – watch for binding at the mounts).
4. Gently lower the tower till in contacts a seat or windshield edge.
5. Reassemble in the reverse order.

Should it help, there is a detailed installation video on the site so you can see how it gets set up to begin with, along with a copy of the installation manual, on our listing for this tower. Additionally, collapsing of any tower will depend on your mounting location, so it is always best to take collapsing into consideration before fully installing the tower, to ensure you get the clearance you are after.
