Product Description

The Perfect Multi-Board Storage System: The Freestanding SUP Rack is the perfect choice if you have a large quiver of SUPs or if you're a retail shop owner. This rack can easily support up to 5 large racing, touring, inflatable, or surf paddleboards. This rack was made with the serious SUP enthusiast in mind and is made from premium quality parts. It also features a multi-stage rust prevention process, so it can be used outdoors in freshwater locations. This rack is made from the same materials as our super popular Stand Up Paddle Board Storage Rack so we have 100% confidence you'll love it.

Convenient freestanding design: One of the best features about this SUP rack is that it is freestanding. No need to find studs, mark up your walls, or even have wall space at all! This makes the Freestanding SUP Rack perfect for retail and rental shops. If you need a way to display and store your SUPs in the middle of your shop, then you won't find a rack better than this.

High-density foam padding: The Freestanding SUP Rack's arms are padded with a thick, nitrile foam - the high-density stuff, not cheap pipe insulation padding. This is high quality closed-cell foam that will protect your board from dents, dings, and scuffs. Rest assured that your boards will sit comfortably and won't get scratched or nicked thanks to this high quality material.

Removable arms: Another great feature about the arms is that they are removable. Attaching and detaching the arms is as simple as a push pin. Additionally, the arms can be mounted upside down or right side up. When mounting the arms right side up, the arm will be angled up 15 degrees relative to the horizon. When mounting upside down, the arms will be angled up at about 5 degrees (almost horizontal). The arms are equally strong mounted in either position, so picking how you want them is simply a matter of preference.

How to get the most out of your rack:

  • Designed to hold 1 board per rack level
  • Do not exceed maximum weight limits per level (40 lbs) or total (200 lbs)
  • Not intended for use in moving vehicles - trailers, campers, etc.
  • Powder-coated steel construction is not designed to withstand full-time saltwater outdoor exposure

Other Options

New for 2017: the base of the rack is redesigned as a flat base to increase rack stability and the foam padding has been removed from the base.

5-sup-floor-rack-dims.jpg
  • 49" wide x 35" deep x 67" tall
  • 27.5" long arms
  • 12" space between arm levels
  • Weight limit per level: 40 lbs
  • Total weight limit: 200 lbs

How’s it? Andrew from StoreYourBoard.com here today to talk to you about our Five Paddleboard Freestanding Storage and Display Rack. You can see it right behind me. This thing is beast. If you got a couple of paddleboards, you need a rack like this to store them.

There’s a lot of great features about this rack. We’ll start with the construction. It’s made out of powder-coated steel. Like I said, it’s a beast. It’s pretty strong enough to hold your paddleboards whatever shapes and sizes you have. Maybe you got some race, touring, surf, inflatable paddleboards – whatever you have this thing can hold it.

Speaking about its dimensions, it’s got five layers of rack arms for Five Paddleboards. They’re 20 inches wide, so really they have the ability to hold some pretty wide paddleboards whether it’s 30-inch paddleboards, 36-inch paddleboards. It should be good to provide enough support for your board. There’s 11 inches in between the rack arms, too, so you can know that with the thick board like this or I’ll show you in a minute we’ll have a board above it with its fin. It will be enough clearance to store your paddleboards on this rack.

I’m going to show you now. I’m going to put a board in. Let me show you how it works. We’ve got this soft top style SUP right here. It’s a very simple rack to use. Slide your paddleboard in. Set it on the foam padding that covers each rack arm to keep your boards safe while you’re racking and taking it out of the rack and you have it set. Like I mentioned before, we can take a look down here. We have a thick inflatable SUP on one level. We have a center fin on the next level. There’s still clearance for your boards.

Another great feature about this rack is that there is some assembly. But it’s pretty simple and you can see how easy it is to unhook the rack arms from the rack. There is one pushpin that you use to insert and remove the rack arms. That’s how easy it is. I’ll also show you some versatility in this rack. If you remove the rack arms, you can set them up this way or you can also change the angle of that rack arms to suit whatever paddleboards you have and you can notice that here, the arm is facing up angle. You use that in a variety of different ways, but right here on this level if you have a wider board, you can angle this rack arm up where you have a little more space between these two boards.

I mentioned that this is powder-coated steel, that it is a beast, but we recommend it for indoor use. That’s great for your garage, your shed, anywhere else like that where really storage oriented. We also do recommend it for some outdoor use but not necessarily saltwater environments. We have some other marine-grade freestanding racks that will be a little bit better suited for a saltwater environment. Freshwater environments yes; saltwater is where we draw the line. If you take a look once again, pretty simple rack, portable, freestanding. Set it up anywhere you want. Take care of your paddleboards so you can enjoy them for as long as possible. The rack is good - my recommendation would be to strengthen the vertical posts so they don't flex when 5 boards are on the rack. Otherwise, the rack is perfect for my use. Thank you.

Well Made

The rack is awesome!! It's lightweight and easy to move around, yet it is very stable when the boards are on it. It's pretty easy to get the boards on and off it, and I feel they are safe.

My only complaint was the the nuts sent with the rack were stop nuts, so I couldn't put it together with the equipment provided. I had to run to the hardware store and grab some hex nuts that were a different color (didn't bother me) to put it together. I don't remember the size I needed, but I remember they were metric. Other than that, assembly was easy. I would purchase again.

Easy build. Product is sturdy and I already have it loaded to its max capacity. I had to use a freestanding rack due to storing my boards in a storage unit, and this fit the bill nicely.

Does what it's designed to do!

This rack holds two surfboards, two paddle boards and two snowboards easily. It's easy to move, even with all of the gear.
The unit wobbles a little when boards are taken off or on because it is so lightweight - and the directions for assembly were a little lacking - but it does what it's supposed to do. and is good quality.
I've only had it a few days, so I might appreciate its ease of use over the little wobble and give it an "excellent" rating later.

Love it

I am renting a home that would not allow me to attach anything to the walls. This rack is the perfect answer to holding my sups, surfboards, kite boards and the snow boards. Not only that but I can easily take it with me when I move.

The product was very easy to assemble. The arms just snap into place with those little push button spring locks. My 8 year old tackled installing the arms. I needed something for easy storage of SUP and my old surf boards.
The design is well balanced.
This is just what I needed.

Came shipped missing a little foot piece. Customer Service acted fast and shipped out the part to me the same day. Great Customer Service!

This rack solved a storage problem for me. I
Needed to store 5 boards in a garage and I had no where to attach any fasteners To a wall . I was looking for a free standing rack and when I found this model on your web site it looked like the solution to my storage problem .

It is sturdy and easy to set up. I am very pleased with this purchase .

Q:
How does this hold up outdoors?

A:
Our 5 SUP freestanding rack has a protective coating to help prevent rust/corrosion, but it is not made of stainless steel - so while solid, strong and stable, it will, even with that protective coating, be subjected to erosion in the elements if used continually outdoors. Also, it would not be recommended for use outdoors in a saltwater environment. You can find some additional options for storing your boards outdoors here, organized by saltwater or fresh water climates.

Q:
Will this rack also work for kayak?

A:
Our 5 SUP freestanding rack won't properly work for most kayaks. It is better suited for SUPs and surfboards. Here are some options for kayaks, most of which would work for SUPs as well: Freestanding Kayak Racks

Q:
Is this rack as good as the other 6 board option you sell? The other rack stores the boards flat and indicates it holds 300 lbs.

A:
For comparison to this 6 board freestanding rack, the major difference between the two is that the 6 board rack has only 3 sets of arms included with it. So that means to hold 6 boards, you are placing two SUPs or other boards on each level, which works fine for many people and their boards, but for other people, stacking boards on top of one another is not the best or preferred choice. That aspect really is going to depend on personal preference and your boards - for some more expensive or specialized boards, you may not want to stack them, to better protect your board investment, but that is a personal call.

The 5 board standhas 5 sets of arms. Another difference is that its arms can easily be removed, or placed in one of two positions - at a 15 degree or 5 degree angle. At a 5 degree angle the arms on that rack are almost horizontal. Being able to switch the angle, or remove the arms, has the benefit of more storage flexibility

Both freestanding racks have been treated with processes that make them rust resistant, so they can be used outdoors in fresh-water areas (but neither is recommended for use outdoors in salt-water areas).

Both stands are strong, sturdy and durable and comparable. They each hold a similar range of board weight, and both are great board storage options for multiple boards.

Q:
What are the dimensions of the two board wall unit? I need to know if I have enough room to hang this on a 12 inch dock board.

A:
Our SUP Wall Rack for Docks/Boat Houses is 24" tall in the two board version, so may not work for your intended space. Here are some additional dimensions for your consideration, for both one & two board versions:

Height (1 board only) = 15"
Height (2 boards) = 24"
Depth = 22.5"
Base width = 4"
Storage slot is 5.5" at top and tapers to 4.5" at bottom
Supports up to 45 lbs per level
Double board rack supports a total of 90 lbs

Q:
Can this rack be left outside?

A:
Yes, our 5 board SUP rack can be used outdoors in "fresh-water" areas - that means, if you aren't on the ocean or in a salt-water area, this rack is fine to use outdoors, as it has a multi-stage rust-protection coating applied to it. However, its not made of stainless steel or other materials that would make it rust-proof in a salt-water/air environment. In our listings for outdoor SUP racks, you can find alternatives intended for salt-water areas, if needed.

Q:
Do you have wall mounted versions of paddle board racks? If so, do you have any images? We have 4 Naish Odysseus boards that we would like to store on the garage wall. The boards are 34" wide by 9'8" long.

A:
Yes, we have many options available in wall racks for SUPs; here is a link to our collection for multiple boards, which all include images. In the same line as this freestanding rack, there is a 3 board wall rack, which works well for large SUPs, but you would need more than one to hold more than 3 boards (it is also available in a 2 board wall unit seen here).

Q:
Does this rack work for 14 foot SUP?

A:
Our5 Board SUP standis about 4 feet long, so for a 14' long SUP, a little less than 1/3 of the board would be supported in the center of the rack, and then you would have about 3 feet of board hanging over on each side of the rack. If you have a room long enough, that may not be a problem, andmaywork okay, if p.aced on the lowest or a low level of the stand. If your long SUP is also very wide (much over 34" wide), it might not work well, as another consideration.

Q:
Do you have a marine grade version of this rack?

A:
We do not have this 5 board freestanding rack available in a marine grade version at this time. Some alternatives to consider is this stainless steel SUP and Kayak rack, and is customizable -- it is available with a combination of straight or angled arms; that rack is meant to be attached to a dock or similar surface, though, so it is not freestanding on its own. That is the closest to a vertical rack for multiple SUPs available right now in marine grade materials, but we have some other alternatives for saltwater areas found here: outdoor SUP racks (saltwater).
