So, you're not supposed to, but I have 3 SUPers and a kayak child- and a little jeep to put them on. This worked great; I had to Squeeze 3 SUPs one 1 rack, and struggled a little getting this guy on, but it was fantastic
Crossbars are sold separately?
You do need to have crossbars installed on your auto in order to use this J-Style Kayak Transportation rack. It has a universal clamp that fits most factory crossbars, and it will fit round ones, square ones and oval-shaped ones. If you have a bare roof they won't work. There are some removable crossbars that work for 4 door vehicles, that the J-racks could be attached to, such as these: https://www.storeyourboard.com/roof-rail-system-malone-versarail/. If you have side-rails on your auto, with a "gap" in them (raised ones, not solid ones) we also have some bars that can attach to those side rails, such as these: https://www.storeyourboard.com/universal-roof-rack-crossbars-50-wide-locking-roof-rack/, and then the J-rack could be used with those crossbars. Those are some options, but the J-racks will work for most types of crossbars.
If you aren't ready to add crossbars of any type to your vehicle, there are removable tie-down systems that can transport your kayak, by running the straps through 4 doorways, but none hold the kayak on its side, they hold it flat on top of the roof.
