Product Description

The ultimate solution for loading a kayak on your vehicle by yourself. No longer worry about awkwardly lifting your kayak onto your vehicle's roof alone with Inno's Kayak Lifter. Mounting to your existing crossbar system, it makes loading your kayak onto your roof rack a breeze, even protecting both your boat and your vehicle from bumps and scratches.

How the Kayak Lifter works:

  • Mounts to existing crossbars: The Kayak Lifter attaches to your vehicles existing crossbar system parallel to the length of your vehicle. A strap holds the support arm into place when in the closed position.
  • Folding and locking arm: The Kayak Lifter has an arm that swings out and locks, allowing you to use it to support the weight of your kayak while you slide it onto your roof and keep your boat from bumping into your vehicle.

How to use the Kayak Lifter:

  1. To load your kayak on your roof using the Kayak Lifter simply undo the strap and pull the arm out.
  2. Then turn your kayak upside down, lay one end in the corner between the arm and the rack, and push the kayak up while the arm acts as another person assisting you in the loading process. The arm supports the awkward weight of your boat so you can just push it up onto the roof and move it into place.
  3. Once your kayak is loaded make sure it's properly secured on your roof, then fold the arm closed and strap it shut!

What types of kayaks will work with the Kayak Lifter? The Kayak Lifter can support kayaks up to 90 lbs! It works with most kayaks on the market short of heavier fishing rigs.

Will the Kayak Lifter fit my vehicle? The Kayak Lifter can fit any vehicle with an existing crossbar system. Inno requires that your crossbars be spaced between 27" to 39" apart for maximum safety.

  • For 1 kayak
  • Attaches to existing roof crossbars
  • Supports up to 90 lbs

Q:
We have a Toyota Scion no cross bars we have a Hobie 2 person peddle kayak what are our options for carrying kayak on roof?
A:
ThisKayak Lifter is only a lift-assist system, to help load a kayak up onto your existing roof rack system/crossbars. Since you don't have crossbars, you will need to first find something that will work to secure the kayak on the roof top. There are a couple of universal systems for cars without factory crossbars, that may work for your boat.

Since that sounds like it could be a very large Hobie, some things you will need to consider is its weight, so that in picking a removable/universal system it could support your boat. Thisinflatable roof rack systemcan support a load of up to 180 lbs, for example. Another option is thisremovable set of cross bars- like other removable racks, it runs straps through your 4 car doors, but creates a set of cross bars that you can then use tie-downs to secure your boat to the system - or attach roof racks meant for cross bar systems. It can hold up to 135 pounds.
Q:
For the spacing of the roof rack bars, the inside space of my car is 25" between the bars but the outside is 30". Would that work?
A:
Unfortunately, the space *between* the front and rear crossbars for this kayak/canoe lift assist needs to be between 27" and 39" inches - so you are close, at 25", but when the gap is narrower (perhaps even by just a few inches) the attachment or the boat could fall - its because undo force is applied when its narrower than the correct range (and so could damage the boat, hurt someone, or damage a vehicle nearby, etc.). Since its an explicit warning from the manufacturer for use of this product to be in that range of 27" and 39", I can't recommend it for use on crossbars that are not in that range.
Q:
How much personal lifting is involve to get Canoe on & off a car?
A:
This kayak/canoe should help ease some of the lifting of a boat onto your rooftop, so that it can be a one-person job. You will be leaning your canoe against the support bar and an arm, and then you lift the bottom edge of the boat and begin to push it up - once it shifts its center of gravitity, you pivot and turn the kayak onto your vehicle top and then begin to secure it to your roof rack; to remove the boat, you will reverse the steps. So it is just that bit of working with the system to lift and push/guide the boat up to the top. With a very heavy boat, you may still feel it some, but it will also be like you had a second person helping you.
Q:
Will this work for a canoe as well as a kayak, even though the canoe is much wider?
A:
This Kayak/Canoe lift assist will work for either type of boat; the main specification is weight - it can work for kayaks or canoes up to 90 lbs. The width difference should not matter, as the main set-up is the same; you would be attaching the assist arm to your existing roof rack/crossbars and then using it to load/unload the boat onto your roof rack. Then, when not in use, folding the lift assist arm in/out of the way.
Q:
I have a 2017 santa fe sport with factory roof racks. Will this work on car?
A:
This Kayak Lift Assist has a universal fit for factory crossbars, so would work for your vehicle. However, the one thing to note is that your crossbars need to be spaced between 27" to 39" apart for maximum safety in using this system. If they are less then 27" apart, it is not recommended, as too much force gets applied on the system. So that would be a measurement to look at, and if between 27" and 39" apart, you should be fine!
Q:
My car does not have an integral roof rack. I purchased the cross bars as a separate item, to be mounted onto the roof with padded bases and straps. Will this lift assist work on a system like that?
A:
Unfortunately, this lift assist needs to attach to crossbars that are hard-mounted already on your car, such as factory crossbars -- not the removable type that uses straps to secure the crossbars to the the roof top. However, we have a couple of other lift assists that don't attach to the crossbars, that could possibly work for you. They attach temporarily to the rear of your vehicle with suction cups, and then the kayak can be rolled up onto the roof top with their assistance, where it is then secured to your roof rack system. They are found here:

I hope that helps give you some alternatives to explore.
Q:
Will this work on a 2009 Outback wagon with crossbars that came on the car?
A:
Based on the product specifications from the manufacturer, the Kayak Lifter can fit any vehicle with an existing crossbar system. However, Inno requires that your crossbars be spaced between 27" to 39" apart for maximum safety.

As long as your crossbars are spaced that far apart from each other you should have no trouble.
Q:
Is this really an option for a small to Average woman to do alone. Middle age, without requiring any assistance loading or unloading? Did it fit on a Honda CRV?
A:
For this kayak/canoe lift assist, it is intended to help lift the boat up onto your existing crossbars, and the manufacturer is a good manufacturer with solid products that do what they are intended to do.  That being said, it is always going to vary for these type of assists, what the user experience is, because of factors you mentioned, along with the size of your particular kayak or canoe, and your vehicle's shape.  However, that being said, for this assist, you will be using the arm of the assist to take the awkward weight of a boat off of your hands, as if you had another person helping you.... so for a  boat up to 90 lbs, it will provide that support, which can help signifigantly, but as with any of these type of assists, you will still need to move the boat into place once it is on the roof, and then secure it to your crossbars/roof rack.  As for fit, it works with existing crossbars -- so as long as your Honda has installed crossbars on the roof, it would work.
Q:

Will this lift assist work on a 2018 outback limited?

A:

This Kayak/Canoe Lift Assist can fit any vehicle with an existing crossbar system. So if your Outback has factory installed crossbars, it should work. One note, your crossbars should be spaced between 27" to 39" apart for maximum safety using this system. Additionally, the boat lift helps to get the boat up to the rooftop where you would be attaching it to a rack or tie-downs where it is being held in a flat position on top of the car (not on it's side).
