Product Description

Is your kayak or canoe clunky and heavy or are you frustrated at needing a second hand to move around it around? If so, the Kayak and Canoe Dolly is going to make your life easier and your kayak and canoe trips more enjoyable!

Just like a traditional dolly for moving heavy equipment, the Kayak and Canoe Dolly is specifically designed to take a large load off your kayak and canoe – making your favorite toy much more manageable to move around.

Each Kayak and Canoe Dolly is well built and can withstand weight up to 175 lbs. The dolly comes with 3 soft, yet durable rubber bumper pads to prevent any damage to your boat. Additionally, this dolly has the awesome feature of being able to break down into a compact size. This makes carrying the Kayak and Canoe Dolly to your favorite boating spots very practical!

The Kayak and Canoe Dolly can function in two different ways:

1) For both kayaks and canoes, your boat will sit on top of the dolly within the “U” shaped support created by the two upright bars and the lower crossbar. To secure your boat, you will use tie-down straps (not included) to fasten your boat and dolly together. The picture with the orange kayak demonstrates this method.

2) For kayaks only, the upright bars can be adjusted to fit into most scupper (drainage) holes. This allows you to quickly and easily drop your kayak into place for portage. The picture with the yellow kayak demonstrates this method.

Don’t be burdened by the weight of your boat! Let the Kayak and Canoe Dolly do the work!

  • 27" tall x 27" wide x 10" long
  • Weighs 7 lbs
  • Weight capacity = 95 lbs

Q:
Can this trailer be towed at 50 mph? If so, I will adapt it to fit behind my motorcycle.
A:
This Kayak/Canoe dolly is not going to be road safe or recommended for transporting behind a motorcycle or other vehicle, as it is not manufactured for that purpose. Its basically a dolly similar to ones used for moving large/heavy boxes, but meant for kayaks & canoes, and will make moving a boat around more manageable.
Q:
Will this work if my kayak scuppers are 6 inches apart? Most wont go that narrow.
A:
The manufacturer doesn't have a specification available to confirm if the bars will adjust to scupper holes that narrowly spaced. However, it can be used by placing the boat on top of the crossbar, between the upright bars, and tying the boat to the dolly, as an alternative, if it doesn't fit a kayak's scupper holes. The dolly doesn't include tie-down straps, but there is a picture on the listing of an orange kayak, showing it in use tied down, instead of securing it through the scupper holes.
Q:
Will this work if my scuppers are 19 inches apart?
A:
The upright bars on our Kayak/Canoe Dolly are adjustable to fit most scupper holes. The manufacturer does not list a specification for how wide or narrow they can adjust in distance. However, you can also use the dolly by sitting your boat between the two upright bars, and using tie-down straps (not included) to secure it in place.
Q:
Can I use this with a canoe?
A:
Yes, this boat dolly works for both kayaks and canoes. For a canoe, your boat will sit on top of the dolly within the “U” shaped support created by the two upright bars and the lower crossbar. To secure your boat, you will use tie-down straps (which are not included) to fasten your boat and dolly together. The picture with the orange kayak on our listing demonstrates this method.
Q:
Can two children's kayaks be towed by one of these? Or will each child need their own?
A:
This kayak dolly is mainly set up to transport one kayak, normally. It holds the kayak by either attaching to the drainage/scupper holes of the kayak, or alternately by having the kayak sit on top of the cart and you use tie-downs (which are not included) to secure the kayak to the cart. The scupper holes of a kid's kayak may not fit properly, so you would probably need to tie the kayaks to this cart. You *may* be able to secure both small kayaks to it, with tie-downs, I just can't guarantee how well that would work, it might not be easy to do.
Q:
Will this work for Hobie brand kayaks?
A:
There isn't a manufacturer's fit guide available for this kayak & canoe cart to guarantee it will work for any brand or model boat. So the only guidelines we can offer on whether it may work for your Hobie are the following:

It will hold heavy boats, up to 95 lbs.

Additionally, it gives you two possible ways to secure a boat to it - for kayaks, the arms can adjust to fit into scupper holes, or, if it doesn't fit the scupper holes, one can place the kayak in-between the U-shaped support arms and use a tie-down strap (not included) to secure their boat to the cart that way.

So whether it would work for your Hobie (if your boat is less than 95 lbs) will most likely depend on how wide your kayak is. The cart has a total width of 27"; so if the arms don't fit the scupper holes on your model, your boat would need to be less than 27" wide where you would be attaching it to the cart, in order for it to fit inside the U-shaped area where you secure it with tie-downs. We can't say whether it would fit your scupper holes as their sizes vary on boats, so the width of your boat would be the main factor to look at it, to see if the cart could at least work one of the two ways possible.
Q:
Can I put this into the kayak or would I have to leave it on the shore, where it could be stolen?
A:
Whether this kayak dolly could fit in/on your kayak is going to depend on the size of any cargo compartment you have, or whether you believe it could fit some rigging you have on your boat - it just under 2.5 feet x 2.5 feet tall/wide, and then another 10 inches in depth, to give you an idea. It weighs about 7 lbs, for that factor. If you boat isn't really big enough to accommodate storing that while you are on the water, you might want to consider a lock for the dolly when you leave it behind.

In spite of the issues that I encountered with the kayak cart Store Your Board issued a full and prompt refund and in doing so gained a customer for life... two thumbs up.

I unloaded my Old Town Predator XL MK kayak, strapped it to the cart and attempted to push it 30 feet to the water when the cart buckled, bending both of the vertical scupper bars beyond use. The manufacturer claims that the cart is rated for 165 lbs and my kayak weighs about 105 lbs with the seat in it, so, theoretically it should have easily handled my kayak, which it didn't.
