Product Description

The most dynamic ceiling storage solution around - the Kayak Hi-Line. It's fully adjustable to fit your Kayak and your ceiling space. The price fits your budget, too!

The Kayak Hi-Line Storage System consists of:

  • 2 Nylon Straps - made of high-quality 1" wide, black nylon material to securely support your kayak. Its soft webbing is gentle on your kayak while stored.
  • Metal Ceiling Mounts - sewn into both ends of each strap are heavy gauge D-ring clips that mount to your ceiling joists with included hardware to create the hanging storage system.
  • Release Clips - each strap is equipped with a release clip that lets you "open" the strap, which is helpful when inserting and removing your kayak from the storage system (see how it works).
  • Adjustable Buckle - once your kayak is inserted, it's easy to adjust the height of your storage by tightening or loosening the strap, like you would a backpack, and an attached "belt loop" secures any excess strap material.

Adjustable Ceiling Storage. The Kayak Hi-Line mounts to your ceiling joists and is an easy way to take advantage of unused overhead storage space in your garage, basement, or under your deck to store your kayak. Even better, the Hi-Line is adjustable so you can customize it to your storage space! If you've got a high ceiling, you can keep the straps fully extended so your kayak hangs down to where you can reach it. If you only have a small storage space (above your car in your garage, maybe) then you'll pull the straps so they're fully tightened to the point where your kayak is flush against your ceiling.

How Does the Hi-Line work? You'll mount each of the 2 straps to your ceiling, at whatever distance apart you choose to fit the length of your kayak. Then it's a matter of inserting your kayak. We recommend loosening the straps a bit so you can slide your kayak in nose first, then pull the back strap under the rear of your kayak and tighten the straps so the kayak hangs as close or far from the ceiling as you want. To make it even easier to insert your kayak, you can unclip each strap "open" and clip it "closed" under your kayak. That way you don't have to fit a "closed" strap around your boat.

What Kayaks will it hold? The Hi-Line is built to hold kayaks up to 50 pounds. This is typically more on the recreational end of kayaks, and not heavy fishing kayaks, hobies, etc. It can accommodate any lengths / widths / thicknesses, subject to your space. The metal mounting clips need to be mounted into ceiling joists (or rafters or studs), so your joists will dictate how wide you can mount the straps. For length, the 2 straps are independent so you can mount them at whatever length you need to fit your kayak. You'll need clearance in your ceiling space for your kayak. Also great for - paddleboards, surfboards, skis and more. Each strap fully extended is 100".

Adjustable to Fit Your Kayaks: each strap can be adjusted from 34" to 96". Great to adjust to fit your kayak and your ceiling storage space.

New for 2016 is the Hi-Line! We designed this rack to be an adjustable, customizable ceiling storage solution. We know tons of our customers need to store their kayaks in overhead spaces, but rigid ceiling racks don't fit in all spaces and certainly don't fit all size kayaks. The Hi-Line will fit your space and your kayak, no problem. Its heavy duty nylon webbing and D-ring mounting brackets can hold up to 50 lbs, ample for many kayaks. Another great feature is the release clip. When I use the Hi-Line, I keep the back strap clipped open, then start by inserting the front of my kayak into the front strap. I then push the rear of my kayak upwards (while front is supported by the strap) and clip the back strap together, closed under my kayak. This turns overhead storage into a 1-person job, no ladder required, whether it's putting my kayak up, or taking it down. If you're really ambitious, you could set this up so your kayak lowers directly onto your car's roof racks, making it one step easier.

Howdy! I’m Andrew from StoreYourBoard.com. We’ve got a product video for the kayakers out there. You can see the strap-based storage system behind me. This is the Kayak Hi-Line. This is a super product to hang your kayak in a tight storage space, put to use that overhead space and get your kayak up off the ground. It’s a strap-based system. It’s based on two straps, and they are 8-foot long and goes like each one up against your ceiling like this. There’s clips on each side that you’ll mount to the ceiling with four included screws. It’s a very simple installation. You will hit the joists in your ceiling whether your joists are going this way or perpendicular direction. It’s a one-screw insert, so you can just adjust your ceiling to its whim.

Another couple of great features about the strap system part of that is it’s adjustable. We have the board in here, the kayak is hanging a little bit lower from the ceiling like you can make a couple of holes almost like you just did a backpack strap or a car rack strap, and you can get that kayak higher into the ceiling, then you’ll be able to walk under this. For example if your ceiling is lower or your ceiling is higher, you have your kayak hanging low. The last feature I want to show you right now is this clip that undoes the two straps, which I’ll show you how it’s very helpful in mounting your kayak into the strap system.

It could be a two-man job or a two-person job, and I’m going to show you that it can also be a one-person job to get your kayak in and out of the Hi Line. Starting from the back, support your kayak, unclip the strap, carefully lower your kayak to the ground. Your kayak should be in and out. Again, you can see that this strap is clipped. This strap is open. This will be the time when you set it up, adjust it to how high the level you want your kayak to sit from the ceiling. It supports up to 50 pounds. This is a 10-foot recreational kayak. You have something huge, a huge fishing kayak, probably over 50 pounds, probably not the storage system for you.

Now I’m going to insert the kayak again. Leave the front strap clipped and just do basically backwards of what I did to get out. It can be a two-person job, also a one-person job, [unclear]. It gets to its hanging. It should be a little more depending. Pull it back longer, one hand there. Support your kayak at all times. Clip it in. Double check; pretty even here. Good support for your kayak. The reason you can’t take your paddle, your life jacket, towels, all your gear right on top, up to 50 pounds.

Q:
Can a person insert the kayak and then tighten the straps so the kayak is closer to the ceiling? Our garage only has a 7' ceiling.

A:
OurHi-Line Kayak Ceiling Rackis very adjustable, so you can get it very close to the ceiling in your space. You can set the straps up to get that kayak as close as possible, so the main thing you need to work around is how big your kayak is for clearance in your garage.

Q:
Can this be installed in a 14" garage ceiling? Other systems specify 'up to 12" ceiling'.

A:
Our Hi-Line adjustable ceiling straps are a unique ceiling storage system for kayaks. You can adjust how far down the straps hang, so you can access your kayak, but with a 14 foot ceiling, you will need to keep the straps adjusted so the kayak hangs lower. Depending on where your ceiling joists are, and how wide your kayak is, the lowest it can hang at most will be *about* 8 feet from the ceiling. So that is something to think about, for ease of getting the kayak in and out of the straps, but unlike many hoist systems, which are pulley-based, you will have more potential flexibility to work with different ceiling/room spaces with these straps. There is a video posted on our listing showing how it is set up and works, that may help give you an idea for whether its the right choice for your space.

So I watch the video and it looked so easy, not so, the install of the straps was fine but getting the kayak in the loops and sucking it up to the ceiling not so easy for one person, two would work much better.

Easy Up / Difficult Down

I bought this particular item for the tiny storage space that is my tuck-under garage with a 7 foot tall ceiling. This item was very easy to install, but I'd recommend to install the straps so they are closer to the middle of the kayak rather than the ends or the straps will slide off. The straps pull very easily to get the kayak completely flush with the ceiling and it is awesome! The biggest downfall I have with this product is that I cannot loosen the straps without unsnapping them which makes it difficult to try and get the kayak down from the ceiling. The first time I tried, the whole kayak crashed from ceiling to floor. I'm still trying to figure out a technique to get the kayak down safely if it's not possible to loosen the straps from the ceiling position. Overall, for the price, this is a decent product. It just has some challenges if you are a single person trying to get your kayak down.
