Product Description

Why a Kayak Lock? This kayak lock system is a simple way to protect your investment ($$$$) in your kayak. We know there are times when you'd like to leave your kayak unattended - outside on the dock or pier, on your car's roof rack, behind your house, and more. This kayak lock will deter would-be thieves and give you some peace of mind while you grab a cup of coffee or leave your kayak at home while you're out. Requires a 1/2" or 3/4" accessory rail, which is found on many but not all kayaks, like fishing kayaks, hobies, ocean kayaks, and more.

What are the parts of the Kayak Lock? The Dock Locks Kayak lock consists of 3 essential components:

  1. a 10 foot long resettable combination cable lock;
  2. a Dock Locks Jaw (looks like a car key); and
  3. Kayak mounting hardware pack, mounts a cleat to 1/2" or 3/4" kayak accessory rails.

How does the Kayak Lock work? The Kayak lock works like a typical cable bike lock, but since a kayak doesn't have a place to loop a cable lock through (like a bike frame), the system includes a unique way to affix the lock to your kayak, that's the Dock Locks Jaw. The Jaw is about the shape of a key. Its metal tip clamps open or shut, and clamps shut to a cleat that fits securely in a 1/2" or 3/4" kayak accessory rails. When the cable lock is threaded through the metal loop of the Jaw, the Jaw's tip (clamped shut) cannot be opened. Together, the system prevents removal of the Jaw from your kayak, and the removal of your kayak from whatever the cable is locked to.

How do I set up the Kayak Lock? (1) set up the cleat in your accessory rail, (2) clamp the Jaw to the cleat, (3) thread the cable lock through the loop on the Jaw, and (4) lock the cable to something strong (a tree, your roof rack, deck or dock, etc.)

How does the cleat work with the accessory rail of my kayak? The cleat screws into your accessory rail securely with the base plate to provide a sturdy and safe anchor point for the Docks Locks Jaw. What prevents someone from just unscrewing the universal cleat from the rail? Good question - there is a metal bar that gets press fit into place. This bar prevents access to the screw that screws the cleat into place.
