Product Description

double-kayak-roof-rack-small.jpgThis Thule Kayak Roof Rack package includes all the ratchets, straps, ropes, and hooks you need to securely hold 1 kayak. This kayak roof rack is designed to carry one kayak on its side which is a beneficial feature for 2 reasons: strength and space. Kayaks are very strong along their side, so storing it on its side will prevent any unwanted flexing or warping. Additionally, when you store your kayak on its side you free up room for more gear on your roof. Our customers frequently fit 2 kayaks on their car or SUV's roof.

Thule is known for their quality and this kayak rack is no exception. Each rack is powder coated for rust protection which means you can feel confident using it with your salt-water-soaked kayak. Four thick pads will provide a soft cushion to secure your kayak against the rack. The large J-style hooks provide plenty of clearance which means getting your kayak in and out is a breeze.

We offer two versions of this rack: a standard (Hull-a-Port) version and a folding version (Hull-a-Port PRO). The folding version is an excellent upgrade because it allows you to quickly reduce the wind profile of your rack when not in use. If you're looking to cut back on wind resistance when you're not carrying your kayak, you have two options: uninstall the rack or simply fold it over. The folding version allows you to easily improve your gas mileage without needing to uninstall the rack - we definitely recommend the upgrade to the Hull-a-Port PRO.

Please note: this rack will fit most factory and aftermarket roof bars, but it will NOT fit Thule's Aero bars. Thule's square and circle bars work fine, and so do most other brand's square and circle roof bars. If you would like this rack to work with your Aero bars, then you will need an adapter kit.

  • Holds kayaks up to 36 inches wide
  • Supports kayaks up to 75 lbs

Q:
I have a Mini Cooper countryman. I already have the Mini Cooper base rack. I need a kayak carrier to mount on top. Does this Thule mount to the Mini Cooper base rack?

A:
The manufacturers fit guide for the Thule Hull-O-Port Kayak Rack shows it can work with a Mini Cooper Countryman's rack - it indicates a Countryman with a factory rack that has "flush rails." So if the base/factory rack on your model has those flush rails, it should be fine. Additionally, the Thule rack fits most factory crossbars that are square or round, but it does not fit aero-shaped bars. So if the shape of the bars on your roof rack are standard square or round ones, it should work.
Q:
Will the Hull a Port kayak carrier properly attach to the crossbars of my factory GMC Acadia roof rack?
A:
According to Thule's fit guide, the Hull-a-Port Pro fits GMC Acadia's with factory crossbars.
Q:
I have a 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman with manufacturer's base rack. I need a Kayak Mount to fit this base, do you know if it will fit?
A:
Yes, this should work for transporting your kayak, as the manufacturer's fit guide is showing that the Kayak Hull-a-Port Pro fits your 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman (with base rack).
Q:
Does the Hull A Port Pro come with two brackets for holding one kayak?
A:
Yes, the Hull-a-Port Pro includes two cradles to hold on kayak on its side!
Q:
I have a Pontiac vibe gt and was wondering if the pro will attach directly to the roof rack or if I will need an adapter of some sort?
A:
The Hull-a-Port Pro is showing in the manufacturer's fit guide as working for the factory racks on the Pontiac Vibe; I didn't see the specific GT model - but there were several types of factory racks listed, and it was showing the Hull-a-Port Pro works for those racks without an adapter.
Q:
I have a kayak and it is 14 feet long. How far apart do these mounts need to be spaced apart?
A:
The Hull-a-Port kayak rack attaches to existing crossbars on your vehicle, so you attach one J-cradle to the rear crossbars and the other one to the front crossbars to secure the kayak; spacing then will depend on where your crossbars are already installed. It fits most standard factory and aftermarket crossbars. The cradles will then hold your kayak on its side, fitting a kayak up to 36" wide at its beam and up to 75 lbs in weight. So as long as it is no wider than 36" and not heavier than 75 pounds, the length should be fine, you would just be placing the kayak in the cradles so that it is evenly distributed in length front to back of your vehicle.
