The premier way to safely secure and lock your surfboard to your vehicle. Versatility, durability, and the ability to lock down gear are the highlights of the Locking Surf Car Rack. While it's listed as a surf rack, this rack can do so much more and will gladly hold SUPs, kayaks and canoes, too. Whether it’s speeding down the interstate or sitting in a crowded parking lot, you can rest assured that your prized possessions will remain where they are supposed to – securely on your car.
How it works: This is a complete strap and lock system that integrates into your preexisting roof-top rack system. This system augments your current roof rack to include built-in padding, cable ratcheting system, and a lock mechanism. Sweet! The straps lock at the side with a key lock, keeping your gear secure, and the straps themselves are rubber-coated stainless steel, more than strong enough to protect against the casual thief strolling by with a knife or scissors!
To use the rack: Start by securing the rack system to your roof rack with the provided hardware. Place your board in the rack and then secure it by ratcheting down the cables until they snugly hold it in place. Once everything is in place like you want, you can use the provided key to lock your surfboard down and walk away from your car in confidence.
Fits on a wide variety of vehicles: The engineers at Inno have done an excellent job designing this rack to fit a wide variety of roof rack types, so unless you have something super funky this rack will work for you. It integrates with square, round and aero style crossbars. Watch the video below to understand better how the system works!

I have a Mazda 3 2008 Hatchback and currently there are no racks on the roof at all. I surf quite a bit and these would make my life a lot easier. I am curious if I need to purchase racks that will attach to the top of my car, along with these? Or will just this purchase alone suffice.
This locking rack does require a pre-existing roof rack in order to use it. You integrate this locking system to the existing roof rack. If you don't have an existing roof rack, then you would need to install one first, before you could use this. The locking rack gives you a lot of advantages, in that it is easy to load, it holds a couple of boards and then locks to secure them, for when you aren't around your car. One of our removable, universal racks that work for vehicles without roof racks would be an option if you aren't ready to purchase a roof rack -- you can find a few of them listed with our car racks here
Does this system fit a 2013 Jeep Compass?
This car rack has a universal fit to mount to different types of factory racks. It should work fine for your 2013 Jeep Compass, as long as it has a pre-existing rack on it.
Will the inno locking racks also hold just one longboard or is it designed to only hold 2 longboards/3 surfboards?
The locking surfboard/SUP rack will work great for transporting just one longboard -- and then if you need to at any point, you will also be able to transport more than one!
How does the rack system lock to your existing roof rack? I saw a review on Amazon that said the board is locked securely in the rack system, but someone could take the entire rack system off the roof rack. Is that accurate?
We have a video on our SUP listing for this rack, that shows how it attaches and secures your boards, seen here
. You will need to have an existing roof rack as you noted, but once attached to the existing roof rack, with your board locked in place, it would be very difficult to remove the entire INNO rack system.
How fast can you drive with a long surfboard mounted on this rack ? Normal speed (60mph) or will the wind break the board or rack?
Thislocking transportation rackis a stable system for transporting your board safely via highway travel at normal/reasonable speeds. For long distance and highway travel, as a hard rack system, it will protect your board more securely than just using tie-downs, but there really isn't a specific guideline we could give you beyond that other than common sense precautions as road, weather and other factors can vary. However, you should be able to drive at a regular, reasonable speed, as long as the rack system and the board has been mounted and secured according to manufacturer's instructions.
What prevents someone from cutting the cable and/or opening the side rack that doesn't have the key?
This locking roof rack has straps that are locked at one side with a key, securing the straps down. Then the straps themselves are rubber-coated stainless steel, which is very difficult to cut, and a strong deterrent to theft.
