Space-efficient storage on your dock for 2 kayaks or paddleboards! This Over-The-Water Dock Rack is a great way to store your watercraft right off the edge of your dock. By storing your kayaks or SUPs over the water and off to the side, you can keep your dock space clear for foot traffic. This rack also makes it easier to load and unload your boats since you will have more space on your dock to maneuver your kayaks or boards. Save yourself a trip and have our boats ready to go right on your docks so you can get to out on water!
Bolt-On Design The base frame of the rack securely fastens to your wood dock by bolting into the side joist and underneath your dock to a center joist. This setup gives the rack a rock-solid secure base to hold your kayaks or paddleboards. The bracket can be adjusted to three different settings to help fit your dock's joist spacing. See included installation manual above for more info on how the rack attaches to your dock.
Kayak and Paddleboad storage The rack holds up to 2 watercraft. Choose from either 2 kayaks, 2 SUPs, or 1 of each!
Adjustable deck straps Each storage attachment includes an adjustable nylon strap to buckle in your kayaks or SUPs for secure storage.
Saltwater or Freshwater Choose from the selection of storage attachments for either saltwater environments (black storage attachments) or freshwater environments (yellow storage attachments). The base frame is built from marine grade components so it is ready for either setting.
Customizable storage Each storage attachment can be mounted depending on the size of your kayak or paddleboard. The base frame has multiple mounting holes on each side so you can attach each level of storage exactly where you need it.
The details say hardware attaches to a wooden dock. We have a Trex dock, will that be okay to attach hardware?
The hardware included with this kayak/SUP dock rack system is meant for wood decks/docks -- but it should work for your Trex dock, as the composite lumber is considered very strong and the fasteners used for the dock rack should attach to it well.
What is the difference between the SUP support and the kayak support?
The SUP arms for the over-the-water dock rack hold the SUP flat; the kayak cradles have angled arms. You can see more about each of those racks at their wall mount listings (same rack, but for mounting to the wall):
Note, some kayaks can work in the flat SUP arms, but SUPs may not work great in the Kayak one, if you are thinking about what would work best for your combination of gear.
Is there an ability to lock the boards in with a cable/lock?
This dock rack system doesn't have a built-in lock for it, but you could easily use SUP dock locks, https://www.storeyourboard.com/sup-lock-system-dock-locks/, to secure your boards to the rack (or another stationary item) for theft-prevention. The base system includes one 10 foot long locking cable, and a jaw clamp that attaches to a board's leash plug or finbox and then to the locking cable; you can use the same locking cable to secure more than one board -- just purchase an additional jaw clamp in options for each additional board you wish to lock. It is a very versatile system for securing boards, and one we recommend.
I want to attach the rack to the joists of an outbuilding. Can the upright bars be attached so kayaks are easy to access of the side of a structure rather than from a dock?
For this over-the-water dock rack, you don't need the full kit/rack stand to attach the cradles to a wall or exterior surface -- the cradles it ships can be purchased separately, without the stand, and then you could mount those directly to your wall. You can see those cradles here:
https://www.storeyourboard.com/padded-kayak-wall-rack-adjustable-safety-strap/ (freshwater finish) or
https://www.storeyourboard.com/outdoor-kayak-wall-rack-marine-grade-rustproof/ (marine grade construction)
I wouldn't recommend trying to attach the stand that the over-the-dock rack ships with to a wall, it really wouldn't serve any helpful purpose, and would be unnecessary weight on the wall.
We do have some wall rack systems that could be mounted outdoors that you do attach the vertical mounts to the wall, they are stainless steel, and you can choose types of arms and number of arms they come with; you can place those arms at different locations on that type of rack system, to work for your particular needs (height, reachability, space between boards/boats. You can see that type here: https://www.storeyourboard.com/sup-kayak-wall-mount-rack-customizable-stainless-steel-outdoor-storage/ -- that would be an alternative you could consider.
