Product Description

Take advantage of your unused overhead storage space with this Premium Kayak Hoist kit. Designed with an industry best 4-point lifting system, this kayak lift kit will allow you to effortlessly store kayaks and canoes up high and out of the way. This hoist kit is not your average ceiling hoist, this kit is in a league of its own with precision pulleys, stainless steel hardware, locking cam, and high strength rope. Storing your boat overhead has never been easier or safer.

The Premium Kayak Hoist is designed to work on ceilings up to 10ft tall. The hoist is easily operated by one person, but has a self-locking safety cleat that grips instantly in the event of accidental release. The 4-point system provides a safer and more stable lift compared to the standard 2-point system. Additionally, the soft strapping that runs underneath your hull provides a long term way to store your boat that won't cause hull abrasions or distortions.

We offer this boat lift kit in a variety of load capacities - choose a capacity that exceeds the weight of your boat.

The hoist works well. Stores my canoe up off the floor of my garage and allows me to get it on and off the car by myself. It took me all afternoon to install but I expected it would take some time. One suggestion I have is to possibly increase the length of the pine boards (bought separately). The instructions say the boards should be 6 feet long and be fixed to the ceiling with 4 lag bolts. The studs on the ceiling of my garage are spaced 2 feet apart, which means to hit 4 studs I would need to have two lag bolts at the very ends of a 6 foot board. To give a little wiggle room I should have gotten a board 6.5 feet long or somewhere thereabout. Also, it's a bit of a hassle to hold the board against the ceiling while doing the measuring, and screwing in the bolts. I suggest having a friend help with installation.

The hoist works better than expected. It takes a bit of planning to install but I followed the installation instructions to the T and the kayak fits very close to the ceiling of the garage. I adjusted rope lengths many times so my advice is not to cut them shorter ever or at least not till you are satisfied with the final config. All the parts are very high quality. I have zero complaints with this system.

Worked as expected.

I could get it closer to the ceiling than other types lifts.

It wasn't a quick install.

I'm pleased with the purchase.

Immediately after I purchased this, I thought: why did I just spend $180 on some ropes and pulleys? But once I got everything installed and the canoe slung, I was so happy with it! The quality of every item in the kit is obviously top of the line. The rigging worked perfectly, I could raise my 200lb fiberglass canoe with one arm!

Excellent product, I bought this same hoist 2 years ago for my first kayak, and needed a 2nd one for my fishing kayak as well. Installation directions are a little hard to follow, but the hoist is excellent. It will allow you to raise your boat right up to the ceiling.

Q:
Could this hoist be used for longboard surfboards and SUPs?
A:
Yes, you can make these work with a longboard or a SUP. If you have a board bag, we recommend using it with the hoist because it will help prevent the straps from slipping.
Q:
Can you use this kit to hang two kayaks together?
A:
Our premium kayak hoist is best-suited for hoisting one boat. Securing more than one kayak to this hoist isn't built into the system, or suggested as a possibility by the manufacturer, so it could be tricky and potentially dangerous. It does come in options for heavier load capacities, but your kayak itself needs to sit in the straps safely, and very level, while its being raised or lowered. So it is best-suited for just hoisting and storing one boat or other object, though for those purposes it works great!
Q:
I'm guessing with the four-point design, the canoe/kayak could be hoisted closely to the ceiling for storage? My issues is I need it to be above my garage door when opened. I have 2 feet of space between the garage door and the ceiling. My canoe is 18" high. Would this be possible?
A:
Our hoist can bring your canoe very close to the ceiling, and making sure there is clearance for a garage door is an important first step in setting up this system. If you don't have exposed rafters, the installation requires the use of 2" mounting boards, so you will need to add 2" to your boat's depth of 18". With 24" of clearance, you should be able to get the boat up to the ceiling and have about 4" of clearance above the garage door, but that may be a very close call.
Q:
What is the spacing between side by side pulleys? I have a narrow space to contend with. 80# canoe.
A:
The distance between the mounting boards used for this ceiling hoist system should be about 40% of the length of your canoe or kayak, which can be figured out with this formula: Boat Length x .40 = mounting distance. This is required to balance and hold the boat properly. The mounting boards you need to use are 2" x 6" x 6' - so they will span 6 feet across about three ceiling rafters. On this listing, we also have a copy of the mounting instructions that can be viewed, should it provide additional information to help you know if this will work for your space.
Q:
Can this work with a 12ft. Aluminum Jon boat?
A:
Our premium ceiling lift could possibly work for your boat. You would need to pick the version of the lift (in options) that exceeds the weight of your boat - if that boat is in the 100 lb range, you would want the 145 lb lift option. The width of that type of boat (based on one model that length) of say 32" at its widest, should be fine for the system. The length of your boat at 12' will affect the space you can mount this in, as you will need a space long enough to do some. Additionally, if that is a very deep boat, that will affect how close you can get it to the ceiling of that space. Other than those considerations, it should work. You can check out some mounting/set-up instructions we have on our listing, under helpful items, in case that gives you some more ideas on whether this lift system will work for your boat & space.
Q:
Do you have a system that will work with a 12' 6" ceiling
A:
This Premium Ceiling Lift System only works for ceilings up to 10 feet tall; our other ceiling list system, seen here, will work for a ceiling up to 12 feet tall. We don't have an option built to work for a taller ceiling height. You can possibly set up either system to work for a taller ceiling; you just won't be able to lower the boat to the floor in either case; it is possible to work around that somewhat if you can set up stands or risers to a location where the boat can be lowered. If it is always being lowered onto a vehicle top that could also possibly work. It is preferred to set up with a ceiling that isn't taller than that maximum height, of course. On both listings we have installation instructions available for viewing so you can get an idea of what is involved with setting either system up as it is, and whether it might work for you with a taller ceiling
Q:
I have rafters in my garage that are not even but slanted. can this system accommodate that? I have 2 things I would like to store above the cars in garage and looking for a pulley type system.
A:
I cannot recommend this ceiling hoist for use on slanted rafters. While it can be mounted to exposed rafters, the slant will be a problem to get it set up properly to lift your boards/kayaks and hold them securely. I don't have a good alternative to suggest that could work in that space, because of the slant, unfortunately.
Q:
Can this kayak overhead storage system be safely attached to an existing concrete slab ceiling in a carpark, without pulling out of the slab?
A:
No, I would not recommend trying to set this hoist system up into a concrete slab/ceiling. It is meant to be mounted directly into exposed rafters, or to mounting boards that are secured to the unseen rafters. Concrete installation would require other hardware suited for that use, and there are enough possible issues with that mounting I cannot recommend it.
