Product Description

This is the clearance version of our Removable Crossbars for Trucks and SUVs. These crossbars are 100% functional but have cosmetic imperfections, mostly minor scuffs from use in our photo shootClearance items are sold as-is, no warranty, no returns.

The Removable Crossbars are a great way to turn your SUV or truck's bare roof into a general purpose storage system. The crossbars are designed to mount on SUV and truck roofs that don't have any existing factory or aftermarket crossbars already installed. These crossbars are the perfect choice if you're looking to carry lumber, bed frames, mattresses, etc. Additionally, these crossbars provide a basis to attach sport-specific car racks to. For instance, you can attach kayak, SUP, etc type racks to these crossbars to transform your vehicle's naked roof into a complete sport transportation system! This product has a telescoping crossbar that can extend up to 60" wide and is the larger version of our Temporary Roof Crossbar.

The Removable Crossbars are universal in design which means they'll fit most any roof design out there. The one catch is that it will only work for 4-door trucks and SUVs because of how the strapping system works. These crossbars are attached to your vehicle in two different ways. The first way is the 4 mounting feet that provide the vertical support and serve to lift the crossbar off your roof. These vertical supports have rubberized, non-marring feet that will protect your roof and will prevent any unwanted slipping. The second way these crossbars are held down is with a pair of tie down straps. Each tie down strap is attached to the support feet and is designed to loop through the inside of your car. The straps are adjustable to fit a variety of sized vehicles and provide a stable means to secure down the crossbars. The tie down straps are connected with gator clips which make this rack easy to add and remove making it a great temporary crossbar system. The crossbar itself is made from steel that is designed to handle up to 150 lbs of gear!

Q:
Will this roof rack work with a Honda Ridgeline pickup? How exactly do the straps attach to the vehicle?

A:
Our Removable Crossbars for Trucks/SUVs will work for your pick up if it has 4 doors - that is the main consideration/catch for these. They work by attaching the crossbar to your vehicle's roof with tie-downs that need to run through 4 doors; with less than 4 doors, there usually isn't enough room to safely/securely attach them to your vehicle, and would not be recommended in that case.

Q:
Will this work on a 2014 Ford F-150 extended cab to haul two kayaks?

A:
Our Large Size Removable Crossbars will work for your truck if it has 4 doorways the strapping system can run through. The crossbar is 60" long so you would need to have a wide enough truck for that length crossbar as another consideration. If you have 4 doorways, and the truck is wide enough for that length bar, it could work for your kayaks. Note, there is no official fit guide available from the manufacturer of this roof rack system, so we can't guarantee it. It will hold up to 150 lbs, so if your kayaks together weigh no more than that (including any additional racking system you may attach the bars), it could work; it is just the crossbar system, so you would need either tie-downs or kayak specific roof racks to attach to the cross bars to secure your boats

Q:
Will this roof rack work on a 2015 Toyota Corolla to carry 2 kayaks?

A:
This removable crossbar set is for larger trucks and SUVs. For your Corolla, you could use the smaller version of this removable cross bar set It has round crossbars that are 48" long, which should be fine for your auto, and will work for it because your vehicle has four doorways, which is required. It can hold up to 150 lbs - so can support a couple of kayaks. It is just the crossbars though, so you will need some tie-downs or kayak racks to to secure your kayaks to the crossbars.

Q:
Will this work on a 2017 Honda Odyssey with no existing roof rack? And will it support a cartop carrier with luggage in it?

A:
Yes, our removable crossbars should work for your Honda Odyssey. They work for vehicles without existing roof racks, that have 4 doorways you can run the straps through. Note, these are the larger size of these crossbars, for larger autos; their crossbar width is adjustable between 44" and 60". You may want to look at how wide your Odyssey is; there is a smaller version here: https://www.storeyourboard.com/detachable-roof-crossbars-universal/, which is 48" long. So the larger size would be recommended if your SUV is very wide. Both sizes can hold a load up to 150 lbs, including any roof racks that are attached to them. They are round crossbars, so if your rooftop carrier can attach to round crossbars, it should work.

Q:
Will it work on a 2013 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab?

A:
If your Nissan Crew Cab has 4 doorways, these removable crossbars should work for it. They require 4 doorways to run the straps through, so that is the main guideline to look at, as the manufacturer does not have an official fit guide available for them, to guarantee they will work for specific make/model/year vehicles. But otherwise, if you do have the 4 doorways on that particular truck, they should work fine. I hope that helps give you an idea.

Q:
Does this fit for my 2016 Nissan Rogue? It has naked roof without any rails on it now.

A:
Our removable crossbars should work for your model Nissan. They don't have an official fit guide available from the manufacturer that guarantees they will fit a specific year/make/model vehicle, so we have to go by some general guidelines that your car appears to meet. It needs to have 4 doorways that you can run the strapping system through, and it looks like that model does have that, so it should work fine for your auto!

Q:
Will this work on a 2000 chev silverado?

A:
These removable crossbars should work for your Silverado, as long as it has 4 doorways for the straps to run through. There isn't an official manufacturer's fit guide, since they have a universal type fit --- but basically if you have 4 doorways and your roof is at least 44" across, you should be fine. The crossbars extend from 44" to 60" if your rooftop is wider.

Q:
Will this fit an Infiniti qx60 2016/2017? And is it reliable for a 600 mile interstate drive with two kayaks on J-hooks?

A:
These removable crossbars should work for your Infiniti, as their straps need to run through 4 doorways, which those appear to have. There are no other manufacturer's fit guidelines to guarantee it would fit a specific year/make/model vehicle though, since it is a relatively universal fit, so that is all we have to go by. Note, these are the longer set of removable bars, that adjust between 44" and 60" wide; if your vehicle isn't too wide, there is the smaller version, shown here: https://www.storeyourboard.com/detachable-roof-crossbars-universal/ that is 48" long.

As to how this removable crossbar system will do over 600 interstate miles with two kayaks on J-hook type racks attached to it - the first note is that removable systems like this will never provide the same stability and support that a hard-mounted crossbar system will; they do offer an option for vehicles without such roof racks though. Since road types, conditions and weather also are factors, as well as the specific types of kayaks you are transporting, etc., there are too many variable to make a good judgment: you may need additional bow-stern tie-downs for the kayaks; you will need to make certain the J-hooks are securely and properly attached to the vehicle as well as the removable crossbars and you aren't exceeding the load limit for the crossbars or the J-hooks (the crossbars can hold up to 150 lbs if properly mounted). Additionally, you may need to stop at intervals to check on the mounts, etc. This is often recommended with roof rack systems. Last, driving reasonable and prudent speeds when transporting large items on your roof is also always advised. It is usually a good thing to test the system and your set-up on local roads first, before a longer trip.

Q:
Will this work with a Ford Transit 350 XL?

A:
We do not believe these removable crossbars will work for your Ford;. There isn't a manufacturer's fit guide available that would guarantee they would or wouldn't work for a specific year-model-make auto, so we can only go by some basic guidelines... and that is your auto has to have 4 doorways for the straps to run through. If your model Ford does has 4 doorways it could possibly work -- *but* if any of those doors are *sliding * we it would *not* be recommended, as it wouldn't work with sliding doors.

Q:
Will this system work on a 2012 Honda Odyssey van Touring edition?

A:
There isn't an official fit guide available from the manufacturer of these removable crossbars, that guarantees it works for any make/model/year vehicle.  All I can go by is its basic requirements -- you need 4 doorways to run the straps through, which it appears your 2012 Odyssey has; then the crossbar is adjustable between 40 and 60 inches, so you may want to make sure the roof is at least 40" across.  The other note - if those Honda's have sliding doors, it wouldn't work; these types of straps need to go through regular doorways (4 of them).  Those would be the guidelines to look at for whether it may work for your auto!

Q:
How do the straps connect to the truck to hold the racks? Do they somehow tie together inside the truck? How do you ratchet them tight?

A:
Yes, these removable crossbars attach to your the top of your truck via straps that must run inside 4 doorways, where they are secured together under the roof, attaching with heavy-duty gator clips,.  You basically tighten them to the right fit.  Your truck does need to have four doorways, for them to work.

Great as a temporary roof rack only

Works well as a temporary roof rack if you don't have factory rails to install permanent cross bars. I wish the bar shape wasn't perfectly round. When I attach my Kayak rack it's impossible to clamp it down enough so it doesn't rotate out of position. If the bars were oval or square, it would be better. Also the rubber feet meant to protect your paint keep falling off; a little 2-sided tape fixed this problem.

My car doesn't have a factory roof rack or side rails. I bought these to carry two kayaks on a recent camping trip. They worked great and would highly recommend them.

This is a well built roof rack that fits it's intended purposes wonderfully. Quick to install and move from vehicle to vehicle. Great for periodic uses where you don't want to modify your vehicle in any way. Can even be taken on a canoe to be used on the vehicle at the take out point down river.
