Product Description

If you’re looking for the highest quality bike rack for your shortboard surfboard, look no further. This side-mounted surfboard carrier offers the most user friendly and stable way for you to bike to the beach with your surfboard. Made of aircraft-quality aluminum, this surfboard rack was engineered to be as lightweight and durable as possible. Whether you have a beach cruiser or fat tire bike, this surfboard bike rack is designed to fit your bike. Spend more time surfing and less time sitting in traffic looking for a parking spot!

How does it attach to my bike? The install of this rack is simple. The rack is a set of two J-shaped rack arms that mount at an angle to hold your surfboard. To begin, simply secure the rack’s clamp to your bike's seat post. The clamp won't damage your bike and will fit a wide variety of seat post diameters. The 2 rack arms fit into the clamp with simple push buttons, 1 each.

Quick Release: if you want to ride your bike without the rack, removing it is literally a push of two buttons! A push button at each rack arm removes the arms from your bike; reinsert the arms whenever you're ready to load your surfboard again.

What surfboards does it fit? This Shortboard Rack is recommended for boards up to about 7-8 feet in length. The tubes are pre-bent with clearance for boards up to about 3.5 inches in thickness, but if you board is thicker than that the bars can be bent open a bit to make more room. Have a longboard? Check out the longboard version of this rack: Longboard Bike Rack.

  • Holds boards up to about 7-8 feet in length.
  • Tubes are pre-bent to hold boards up to 3.5 inches in thickness (if your board is a little thicker than that, the bars can be bent open a bit to make more room).

The racks work great. My rating is good because the racks came loose very easily because the bolts REALLY need to be tightened. After 3 or 4 commutes and rigorous tightening, they work great. I usually use it on a 6 mile commute to Rockpiles or 8 miles to Salt Creek, but I made it 40 miles round trip to lowers and back in the rain! I leave the rack attachment on during daily commutes, and it's great to easily attach the surf racks when I just want to hop on the bicycle and get to the beach. To conclude, the racks work great after the painstaking process of adjusting the parts and tightening the bolts. The painstaking process of setting up the racks is worth the ability to adjust the racks to fit the bicycle.

Q:
Are the clamps also removable? Can I install this rack on a rental bike, and then easily uninstall the rack, without damaging the bike? Can I transfer the rack among different bikes?
A:
The rack arms that hold the surfboard remove with the push of a button -- but to remove the clamps you are basically uninstalling them, so would need to have a wrench on hand.
The clamp has padding to protect your bike's paint, but I wouldn't guarantee you couldn't unintentionally scratch or ding a rental bike in the process of uninstalling it. However, you can transfer the rack system to another bike, but again, its a matter of uninstalling and installing, and making adjustments to how it fits a different bike, as you do need to adjust it some on different bikes.
