Product Description

The Malone VersaRail is a crossrail system for vehicles that have a bare roof. If you need a way to transport kayaks, SUPs, and other toys but your vehicle doesn't have crossbars or side rails, then the VersaRail can make it possible! The VersaRail is universal, so as long as you have a 4-door vehicle and a bare roof then it will work for you.

The VersaRail comes with a rectangular crossbar profile. This is a standard design that should fit most any rack accessory out there. So whether you have a kayak rack, sup rack, or anything else, you should be able to attach it to the VersaRail no problem.

The Malone VersaRail comes with a durable rust resistant coating, so it should be able to withstand the weather for years. Each crossbar also comes with abrasion resistant dual suction towers that won't scuff your roof and are easy to attach. Setting up the VersaRack is super simple. It comes with detailed instructions and an installation wrench, so no trips to the hardware store are necessary.

Easy to use!

As a first time kayak owner and roof rack user, this product was super easy to install on my Volkswagen Jetta. I actually used it the first time in the parking lot picking up the newly purchased kayaks! The instructions were clear with pictures. I was able to load them quickly and securely with one person to help. The only negative is having the straps in your "head space" driving.

Q:
Can I put these rack on a 4 door Fiat 500L? I need something for my Kayak and paddleboard.

A:
Our Removable Crossbar system has a universal fit for most 4 door vehicles, so should work for your Fiat. It is just the crossbars, so you you will also need additional tie-downs or roof racks to secure your kayak or boards.

Q:
Will this work on my 2004 Mercedes, and what additional rack should be used for 2 kayaks?

A:
Thisremovable crossbar systemhas a near universal fit for most 4 door vehicles that lack an existing roof rack, so it should work for your Mercedes as long as it has 4 doors. To hold two kayaks, you would want something like thistwo kayak roof rack system

Q:
Are there rubber mounts under the feet or suction cups?

A:
OurBare Roof Crossbar Systemhas dual actionsuction cupfeet, along with fitted attachment straps.

Q:
Can the bars be removed after ever use? I'm looking for a system that can be removed from my car when I'm not using it to transport my kayak.

A:
Yes, this is a removablecrossbar system, so you can take it off your vehicle when not in use, use it on another vehicle, etc. Note, it is just the crossbars, so you will needtie-downsor akayak rackin addition, to transport your kayak on top of it

Q:
So will this system only hold 1 Kayak? I have a 2013 Hyundai Tuscan Limited. all glass top, no rail system.

A:
The manufacturer's fit guide shows your model and year Hyundai as compatible with the Versarail Removable Crossbar system. The removable system is just the crossbars, however, for bare roof vehicles that don't have any crossbars, so you will need additional tie-downs or a kayak rack to secure your boat to the crossbars.

The crossbars support a total of up to 135 pounds, so can possibly fit more than one kayak depending on their width, etc. - you could use J-racks to hold two kayaks upright on the crossbars, or if they are slim kayaks, you may be able to have them side by side with tie-downs ontop of the crossbars. What will work will depend on your kayaks and how wide the top of the Hyundai is - and what additional racks or types of tie-downs you will be using with the removable crossbars

Q:
Will this work on a 2015 Kia Sorento SUV with a rail-less or flat roof? Can I use it to transport my Kayak or luggage carrier?

A:
Yes, according to the manufacturer's fit guide, the Versarail Crossbar System is compatible with your 2015 Kia Sorrento SUV, as long as you have no existing rails/a bare roof. Once you set it up, you can transport a kayak or other items like your luggage carrier. The VersaRail system will support a variety of roof racks that require crossbars. Its total weight capacity for what it can support (including any rack attaching to it) is 135 lbs. For trasnporting your kayak, you would need some sort of tie-downs or a kayak rack to attach to the VersaRail.

Q:
Do the attachment straps span across the cabin, or are there clips that clamp onto the roof edge?

A:
This removable crossbar system has straps that run through the cabin of your vehicle (through the 4 doorways). It does not clip to the roof edge.

Q:
Will these fit a Chevrolet 2016 Cruze? And, if so, do I need the 50" or the 58"?

A:
According to the manufacturer's fit guide this will fit your 2016 Chevy Cruze! This particular rack only comes in a 50" size. We do have this adjustable roof rack system (44"-60") you can look at here: Adjustable Removable Crossbars.

Q:
I want to keep these on my car over winter, but we have a lot of rain. Is there a way to keep water from seeping in?

A:
For these removable crossbars, in very bad weather, the straps can direct some water into the auto... so they are generally recommended as best for occasional use, over ongoing install.

Q:
Does the Malone VersaRail system fit a 2014 Honda Odyssey? I am looking to transport a kayak.

A:
Unfortunately, according the manufacturer's fit guide, it won't work for a vehicle with sliding doors, such as your 2014 Odyssey. Most of the removable systems like this need to run through 4 doorways, which doesn't work if they are sliding; the only removable system that could be an alternative for such a vehicle would be this Quick Vaccuum Kayak Rack, that attaches to the roof with state of the art technology:

Q:
Will this fit my 2016 mazda cx-5?

A:
Based on the specifications from the manufacturer this product would be compatible with your 2016 Mazda CX-5.

Q:
Would this work on a 2003 honda suv?

A:
To know for certain if this Versarail Removable Crossbar System will work for you, the exact model of your Honda 2003 SUV would be needed, but based on the manufacturer's fit guide, it is compatible with the CR-V, Element & Pilot Honda SUVs from that year - so if it is one of those models, it will work.  If it is a different one, we can run the fit guide for you again.

Q:
have a 2008 Chevy Tahoe, flat top. Wondering if this will work and best suggestions to use with this to hold two kayaks.

A:
Yes, according to the manufacturer's fit guide, this removable crossbar system is compatible with your 2008 Chevy Tahoe!  You would be running the straps through the 4 doorways of your auto, to attach the crossbars, which can support up to 135 pounds.  Then, if both of your kayaks are no more than 32" wide at their beam (the widest part), you could use this double kayak system to secure the kayaks on their sides to the crossbars.  That would be one option to consider for use with those bars for two kayaks!

Q:
Is this reliable on the highway/freeway?  Where I would go from 60-80mph? I plan to carry a few surfboards with me and cannot have them flying off and hurting others!

A:
You are asking one of the hardest questions we answer at StoreYourBoard!    The main difficulty is that there are so many variables involved, such as your auto, how well you attached the system, and secured the boards, the size of the boards in relation to your auto, and not only the speeds you may be travelling, but the conditions of the roads you are on.   Additionally, there is your own self as the user that can play into how it feels.  Some people can tie up their boards with a removable system and navigate any road, and another can find it feels uncomfortable traveling out their driveway (that is an extreme example, but what one runs into with these type of tie-downs).

These removable crossbars are intended to be used to travel over normal conditions/roads, and at reasonable speeds for those roads.   It is recommended that you check on them frequently -- so if you are traveling for a bit on those roads at those speeds, you may need to stop every 50 to 100 miles to make sure everything is in order.  It is a little bit of common sense, but it is a good reminder.

It also is important that you are using them with a vehicle that has 4 doorways, as use on a 2 door auto is *not* recommended as they won't position safely to hold your boards.

So, the general disclaimer is, if secured properly to a 4 door vehicle, and checked at regular intervals, you should be able to transport your boards safely to your destination, and feel comfortable doing so.   I generally recommend one get used to transporting their boards with these type of universal/removable crossbars & tie-downs on shorter, local trips, before heading farther out.    That really is the best advice I have for using these types of systems.  They won't feel the same as a hard rack on factory crossbars a car may have installed, but if you secure everything properly, follow rules of road safety/common sense, check them at regular intervals, they offer a valuable way to transport your boards and work to do so.

Q:
Can I use these on 2006 Toyota Tacoma with suicide doors?

A:
The manufacturer's fit guide is showing that these Verserail Removable Crossbars will work for your 2006 Toyota Tacoma.  The straps do run through the doorways; that they are hinged on the back should not be a problem -- if that is standard for that model, then it is covered by the manufacturer's fit guide that it would work. If the "suicide doors" are non-standard, I still don't think it would be a problem; the main types of doors such systems don't work with are sliding ones.   So if they aren't sliding but just hinged differently than standard doors, it should be fine.  You do need to have four doorways though.

Q:
Will this fit a 2015 Honda CRV. How many surfboards will it hold. Any locks?

A:
Yes, according to the manufacturer's fit guide, the Versarail would fit your 2015 Honda CR-V.   It basically works for 4 door vehicles with otherwise bare roofs; the straps need to run through the 4 doorways.  It will hold up to 135 pounds, so that is the only gauge for how many boards it could hold.  It is just removable crossbars, though, so you would need tie-downs or some other racks to secure your boards onto the crossbars (and if using any sort of hard rack system to hold the boards, would need to factor in the weight of those racks).  Also, if using tie-downs, how many boards it could hold would depend on how long the tie-downs are, and how wide/thick your boards are.  There are some locking tie-downs available, along with other tie-down options here, https://www.storeyourboard.com/surfboard-tie-down-straps/, as well as dock locks that can be used in addition to whatever tie-downs or racks you use to secure the boards to the crossbars, to lock the boards to prevent theft.  Dock Locks come in handy to secure one or more surfboard/SUP to any stationary object as well (but can't substitute for a transportation rack, just used in addition to one for anti-theft reasons).
