Product Description

This is a reduced price, bundled package for the Malone XtraLight kayak trailer. This bundle is the base trailer system plus Malone's popular Saddle Up Pro kayak rack. This combination provides you a complete trailer system that will let you carry one kayak out of the box. The Saddle Pro is one of Malone's high end kayak carriers that can also be used for paddleboards or surfboards. The Saddle Up Pro works great for all types of kayaks but is especially well suited for larger sit-on-top, recreational, or fishing kayaks. If you are not interested in the bundled package, we also carry the base XtraLight trailer. Additionally, you can shop for just kayak auto racks

About Malone XtraLight
The Malone XtraLight is a high quality kayak trailer designed to carry up to two large kayaks. The XtraLight is one of the most affordable kayak trailers on the market - you would be hard pressed to find another trailer of comparable quality at a similar price. The XtraLight is the little brother to Malone's popular MicroSport, so it comes from a company known for making premium kayak trailers. If you're on a budget, but still want a high quality, USA made kayak trailer then this is it.

Versatile, modular, and easy-to-use are just some of the many ways you can describe this kayak trailer. With the ability to hold 1 or 2 kayaks plus additional gear, this trailer will make transporting all your gear easier than ever. Part of what makes the XtraLight trailer so great is its versatility. There are two square 58" cross bars that form the foundation of the trailer system. These two cross bars are just like the cross bars you would find on a vehicle roof rack. Why this is great is that you can use virtually any rack accessory designed for a roof rack on the trailer! This trailer can be used to hold cargo boxes, bikes, kayaks, canoes, etc, and is compatible with all types of gear carriers from Malone, Yakima, and Thule!

Don't be flat! We offer the option of an 8" galvanized spare tire that locks on to your trailer.

Benefits of a Kayak Trailer
A kayak trailer is the easiest and most convenient way to transport your kayaks. Whether it is just to and from your local watering hole, or a cross country kayaking trip, a kayak trailer will offer you unparalleled kayak transporting capabilities. If you're used to transporting your kayaks on your roof rack or in your truck bed, then you'll appreciate how much a trailer has to offer. With a kayak trailer you no longer need to fuss with lifting heavy kayaks overhead, straps running through the car, or your kayaks taking up precious cargo space for other gear. A kayak trailer frees up your roof rack for other equipment and even has some additional gear storage capability itself!

Another huge benefit of a kayak trailer is you can actually "launch" your boats at a pier like you would with a boat. No longer do you need to carry your kayak across the parking lot to drop it in - that is tiresome and sometimes impossible for some people. If you have access to a boat launch, you can drop off and pick up your boats without once every having to do any heavy lifting. As a bonus, the trailer itself can act as a storage unit for your kayaks when they are not in use. Whether its in the garage, shed, or even outdoors (its rust-proof), you can leave the trailer with the kayaks in it so they're ready for the next session! We even offer locking tie down straps in case you feel security is an issue. If you don't like the idea of leaving you kayaks in the trailer, we also offer a wide range of home kayak racks.

Q:
Does this trailer come assembled? How much assembly does the buyer have to do?

A:
Our Xtralight Kayak Trailer does not come assembled. Assembly will take you approximately 2-4 hours, but is fairly straight forward. You can find a copy of the instruction manual here, for an idea of what is required to put it together.

Q:
What tools are necessary to assemble this trailer?

A:
You will need the following items, which should be gathered before beginning to assemble the trailer:

Required Tools:
  • (2) 3/4” wrenches
  • (2) 9/16” wrenches (a deep socket is recommended)
  • Large flat blade screw driver
  • (1) 7/16” wrench
  • Razor knife
  • Pliers
  • Wire stripping tool
  • Electrical connector crimping tool
  • Lug wrench
  • Small hammer
  • Electrical tape
A copy of the assembly manual is found here, for reference.

Q:
Is this trailer suitable for long distance highway driving at 70mph?

A:
The trailer system is designed and suitable for normal highway travel at safe speeds for the road and road conditions.

Q:
Does the kayak have to be centered on the device?

A:
Our Xtralight trailer comes bundled with a set of Saddle Pro Racks to hold a large kayak (such as fishing kayaks and Hobies). The Saddle Pro Rack is adjustable in width for different sized kayaks, and this trailer system can actually support transporting a couple of kayaks, or a kayak and other gear. Ideally, if you were transporting one very large, heavy kayak, you would want it centered for best distribution of weight.

The width of the load bar is 58" - so if you have a fairly slim kayak at its beam, it could work fine uncentered, and perhaps with other items on other side. It probably also would work fine uncentered for a medium-sized boat.

If you only need to haul one kayak, you might want to consider the Xtralight trailer without any bundled racks, shown here: https://www.storeyourboard.com/malone-xtralight-lightweight-kayak-trailer/. Then you buy separately racks such as these J-Racks that support the kayak on their side, which would give you room for other things on the other half of the trailer.
