This innovative and secure universal SUP roof rack has everything you need to get your SUPs to the water safely and securely. It's got your SUPs covered - literally - as foam padding cocoons around your paddleboards, providing protection from your car's roof and any vibration damage during travel. The padding also extends around your board's rails, so you don't have to worry about too-tight straps cracking your SUP's rails.
These racks are truly universal because they can secure to your car around your existing hard roof rack bars, or through your doors if you don't have a roof rack system on your car. Roll the rack up into its pouch and take it with you on your next destination SUP trip and know that they'll fit your rental car.
The truly unique feature of this SUP car rack is its single loop closure "lockdown" system that secures the rack to your car and your paddleboards to the rack. This rack has only 1 closure that tightens in 1 place - under your car roof or roof bars - so you only need to tighten the racks in 1 place (instead of 2 on other roof racks). Around the top of your paddleboards fits an S clip that you can open to load or unload your boards but that tightens automatically when you tigten the single closure. Overall the system is simpler to secure your paddleboards and also quicker and easier to load and unload!
SUP load capacity is not sacrificed by the innovative roof rack system - these racks fit up to 2 paddleboards.
Reduce road noise from straps If you experience excess noise from the tie down straps, we recommend giving the straps 2+ twists to prevent any "flutter" noise at high speeds.
I don't see any pictures of SUPs with fins. We have 2 RED 10'6" iSUPs. They have 3 fins each that are not removable. How would we transport? (On a RAV4 with aftermarket cross bars).
For boards without removable fins, where you want to transport a couple of them, you would need to place them somewhat staggered, so that the fins can face upwards as needed for both boards (possibly have to have the boards going in the opposite direction, but staggering can work). This won't always work, depending on the boards, etc., but it can. The alternative, if they fit, would be to not stack them, and instead use two sets of straps to secure them to your crossbars side-by-side.
These straps you were looking at would not be my first choice for staggering -- and I don't normally recommend them for inflatables. I would suggest at least checking out these as an alternative (that also work for either bare roof cars or attach to crossbars) -- https://www.storeyourboard.com/removable-sup-car-rack1.html - and if you check out that listing, you can see some boards with staggered fins facing upwards, for an idea of what that can look like.
Ran a couple test runs on the interstate. We’re ready to bring them down I95 to Florida for our upcoming vacation. All the reviews were correct & I am happy with my purchase. Thank you!
We have two pretty thick softy SUP’s. And we were looking for a low cost alternative to installing crossbars and a mounted roof rack. These padded racks are super easy to install and are just long enough to pad the bottom edge of our top SUP when my wife and I go out paddle boarding together. So we love them! The front metal strap connector rattles around on top of the top board when we get above 45mph, so we simply cut a 6” piece of cheap Walmart pool noodle, and just thread the connector inside the noodle once we connect the straps on top of the SUP. Between that and just remembering to twist the straps a couple times before where the door closes over them; we don’t have any issues with wind reverberation. These racks were exactly what we were looking for!
Instructions are a bit obscure but looks good!
The rack is easy to use and can hold 2 boards.
Drove four hours to the coast, 65mph and no issues. Works well. I retightened every couple of hours, but there was very little shift if any. After using racks for surfboards, kayaks, etc I have to say this rack was very impressive and the price cannot be beat. High quality materials, I plan on keeping mine free of saltwater and UV as it appears it will last a long time if taken care of.
FWIW I had a large racing and yoga fiberglass SUP's and carried both comfortably.
Worked perfect for our needs! TY!
Our SUV does not have roof racks and these worked perfectly for our two SUPs. We drove about 30 min max speed 60 mph and had no issues whatsoever.
This product works great for either one or two paddle boards and was very easy to figure out and use. I am super happy with the product and the price!
I picked up this product because i bought two paddle boards to accompany us while taking our travel trailer to the different lakes and rivers around the PNW due to the fact that with my truck bed and towing the trailer it would not be feasible to tow in the back of the truck while towing the trailer. I was more than satisfied when i opened the box and even more so after i tried a product from REI out and was very dissatisfied with it. This product felt great, boards were secure and was easy to use. HOWEVER, once i would hit about 30 MPH + the straps would start to vibrate, shake whatever you want to call it so loud that even the stereo would not hide the sound. I thought i would give it a second try on the next trip, followed by a third and now fourth time. Each time the product was set up as specified and as required and still every time there was more noise it seemed than the first.
This product exceeded my expectations. Super easy to use and perfect to take my two paddle boards to the lake.
These straps should come with better instructions. It took myself and two other people to try to figure out how they work. Aside from that, they work great!
Great customer service and shipping. The product is high quality and this company offers products that no other company makes or sells.
I drove through a pretty bad thunderstorm with my boards strapped up and it held. The sounds of the straps in the wind weren't super comforting and there was some drippage inside the car (the straps absorbed the rainwater) but overall I'm happy I made it home with everything intact.
I mounted two SUP's on a Toyota Sequoia with existing roof racks. Mounting directly to the rack was unstable so I ran the straps through the windows, which was better. The boards still had a tendency to shift around.
The biggest problem was the very loud throbbing hum of the wind vibrating the straps... sounded like a jet engine. Not sure much can be done about this, but be prepared.
Overall, the product works but there are drawbacks. Make sure you have help if mounting more than one SUP.
I am new to SUP and this is the first roof rack I've tried. It took us a couple tries to get the board tied down tight and secure, but I felt comfortable with it by the end of the day. I would say this is a two person job at least until you're comfortable with how it works and get a system. I feel confident I'll be able to tie my board down myself after a couple more times.
Bought these to replace some old worn out ones. Really like how the strap comes down from the top, much more sturdy compared to other styles. Very satisfied and would recommend to anyone looking for a soft rack.
Very happy with the product & service.
This is an excellent product. I use it with 2 inflatable paddle boards (10" total thickness) which saves frequent pumping up during the summer. I have driven at highway speeds for short distances and the rack does not budge. At first the through-the-doors set up took a couple of tries to figure out, but after that it was a breeze. High speed wind noise is noticeable.
I have already tried these on two different vehicles easy to use and worked great
Our paddle boards are not hard and when I tried pulling the straps to tighten the boards it was more cutting into the paddle boards and actually dented the boards and would not get tight.
This carrier was pretty easy to install. I installed on a Honda CRV with factory crossbars. The instructions do not cover this specific installation, but it worked out great!
I used this to carry a single Wavestorm 9' 6" SUP. I'm not sure the padded straps would be long enough to wrap around the edges of a second board of the same size.
I placed the pads on top of the factory cross bars and looped the straps around the bars I cinched it down tight and placed a pool noodle around the straps where they went over the board to protect the board from damage from the hardware. I also tied-down to the front of the car.
The board was rock solid on our 3 hour trip with speeds up to 80mph. I didn't notice a significant increase in noise with it mounted on the roof.
The carry-bag is super convenient for storing the fin, tether, and sling while traveling and then for storing the carrier.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend both the carrier and storeyourboard.com for getting it to me quick!
Received the product and it works very well.
For the money, it is an excellent product. I hauled 2 SUPs 3 hours on the freeway without issue. I have a roof rack with cross bars on a Hyundai Santa Fe but still elected to loop the straps into the cabin. The roof rack did not have gaps for the straps to go through. Due to the higher speeds and to add more stability I also strapped down the front and rear with tow straps. I stopped twice to double check the tension. There was some slight loosening to the front tow strap and front SUP strap, but nothing that caused any movement.
We drove on the highway (75mph+) for over 3 hours and our paddleboard didn't budge on our SUV. Unfortunately, you will definitely need another person to help strap the board down, so solo trips may not be possible. Other than that, it was a great purchase and highly recommend!
Easy to install, no scuffing the boards. The temporary positioning might be a drawback for some.....removing them from car top after each use.
I bought this for my wife. She loves it! We have inflatable boards & this is the perfect way to carry the boards while inflated. Thus saving her time with inflating & deflating once at the water. It's easy to use & holds both boards securely in place. This is a great product & I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a safe & easy way to carry their boards!
So easy to use!
The product works great and is very secure! However, I wanted something I could do all by myself if I wanted to go out for a quick ride in the morning, etc. It takes way more time and effort than I imagined. I finally had to get my husband to help me. On our trip this weekend, he tried to do it by himself and couldn't. It's too hard to keep the ropes in line with one person. My friend bought a system that's velcro and very secure. I may have to go with that so I can make the most out of my summer.
This is an extremely practical and affordable way to transport your board. I would avoid using it at high speeds such as on the highway for long distances but it's perfect for day trips to the water. It is easy to use- I had my board tied down within 5 minutes the first time I used it. I highly recommend it!
Arrived fast and easy to use!
