Product Description

This innovative and secure universal SUP roof rack has everything you need to get your SUPs to the water safely and securely. It's got your SUPs covered - literally - as foam padding cocoons around your paddleboards, providing protection from your car's roof and any vibration damage during travel. The padding also extends around your board's rails, so you don't have to worry about too-tight straps cracking your SUP's rails.

These racks are truly universal because they can secure to your car around your existing hard roof rack bars, or through your doors if you don't have a roof rack system on your car. Roll the rack up into its pouch and take it with you on your next destination SUP trip and know that they'll fit your rental car.

The truly unique feature of this SUP car rack is its single loop closure "lockdown" system that secures the rack to your car and your paddleboards to the rack. This rack has only 1 closure that tightens in 1 place - under your car roof or roof bars - so you only need to tighten the racks in 1 place (instead of 2 on other roof racks). Around the top of your paddleboards fits an S clip that you can open to load or unload your boards but that tightens automatically when you tigten the single closure. Overall the system is simpler to secure your paddleboards and also quicker and easier to load and unload!

SUP load capacity is not sacrificed by the innovative roof rack system - these racks fit up to 2 paddleboards.

Q:
Is this suitable for highway use?
A:
These roof racks are suitable for reasonable highway travel. This system has a good lockdown feature, that helps keep your boards from moving side-to-side, or up and down, during travel, and is one of the more protective of removable soft rack systems available for your boards. That being said, for long distances and higher speed travel, as with any removable, soft rack system, your experience may vary depending on the size of your boards in relation to your auto, and sometimes front and back tie downs may be recommended as additional security for your board, especially if you have big boards and a compact car. In most cases, though, this system should be fine on the highway at reasonable speeds/lengths if the use instructions are followed, which are pretty straight forward, and can be downloaded from our listing.
Q:
Will this rack work on a 2 door Honda Accord?
A:
We would not recommend using a universal roof rack system like this one for a 2 door vehicle, as you will not be able to space and secure the rack well enough to support a SUP safely on top of your vehicle.
Q:
Will this rack be suitable for paddle boards as long as 10'6"? If so, can it carry two of them at the same time?
A:
This removable SUP roof rack can hold a big SUP, and it can securely hold 2 SUPs -- but the only concern may be how big your vehicle is. If you have a very compact car, you could consider additional nose & tail tie-downs to help secure it further, as an extra precaution. Overall, the size of your board(s) should be fine with this removable rack system, for most 4 door vehicles.
Q:
Will this work for the board free style XL

A:
Our removable/universal roof rack can hold up to two boards, and it can hold fairly large boards; the only concern may be if your vehicle is really compact - just picture the board on top of your vehicle is you have a smaller 4 door... a really large board on top of a smaller/compact car isn't recommended. Otherwise, the rack itself should be fine to secure a large board.
Q:
Will this rack work on a Dodge Ram truck?

A:
Our SUP roof rack has a near universal fit for vehicles with or without existing crossbars. If you don't have crossbars on top of your truck, it will work best if you have 4 doors to run the rack straps through. If you don't have 4 doors, it may be hard to space the rack well enough to securely hold your board.
Q:
Will this also work for surfboards?

A:
This Universal SUP roof rack has some extra padding on it to protect and secure SUPs, since they are shaped differently enough than surfboards -- and that means this rack doesn't secure as well over surfboards as it does for SUPs, because the extra padding isn't designed for the shape of surfboards. We don't recommend it for surfboards because of this. There is this surfboard rack in the same line, which we would recommend. There are also some other alternatives for surfboard transportation here
Q:
Will this secure (4) 14' boards?
A:
This SUP roof rack can hold up to 2 SUPs.
Q:
Is there 2 in a pack, or do you have to purchase 2?
A:
This SUP roof rack is one complete roof rack system, that has pads and straps for securing the front and back ends of your board(s). It can secure one to two SUPs at a time but you only need to order one, for a complete, universal roof rack system.
Q:
Will this work on a Yukon/Tahoe with cross bars? These vehicles do not have vents or holes in the rack running parallel to the vehicle.
A:
This universal roof rack system may be able to work for Tahoe Yukon. Since it is a very universal system - with three ways it can be secured to a vehicle (through the doorways, secured to load bars, or with gutter clips) - it doesn't actually have a manufacturer's fit guide that can guarantee it for specific models. So since your side rails don't have vents, or aren't raised to allow you to secure the rack to those load bars, you still *might* be able to use the gutter clips included in the kit, to secure the rack to the gutters/sills (or you may be able to secure the rack to the crossbars themselves as an alternative, instead of the side rails). A copy of the installation manual is included with our listing, under "helpful items) if you want to check that out for how the 3 different ways to secure it to your vehicle work, to get a better idea if it may for your SUV.
Q:
The description indicates that this carrier is for up to two boards. Is there a carrier that is suitable for three boards?
A:
This SUP travel is only recommended for up to 2 SUPs, as SUPs can be very thick and wide, so that it normally would not be able to hold more than. It is a universal rack system, but it is unique in that it works for cars that don't have roof racks as well as for ones that have existing roof bars; so if you do have roof bars on your auto (its not a bare top), there may be tie-downs available that are long enough to secure all three of your SUPs, but would need to attach to the bars, and use with some rack pads.

But if you have a bare roof, you would need a universal system that works by running through your car's doors -- however, most of the removable rack systems are designed to hold only 1 or 2 larger boards maximum. This removable system can support up to 180 pounds; the tie-downs included are 10' long and may work for all of your boards, but if the boards are very thick, you might need longer ones. The smaller version of it has the same length tie-downs, but is rated to support up to 100 lbs, if your boards really aren't that heavy. This self-inflating removable system can hold up to 100 lbs, but does not include tie-downs, so those would need to be purchased separately.
Q:
Would these straps work with a 2 door Ford Focus with a hatchback?
A:
Unfortunately, these removable transportation racks don't work for 2 door vehicles. For a vehicle with a bare roof, they need to run through all 4 doors of an auto in order to be spaced far enough apart to secure the board safely. This is particularly true for larger boards like SUPs in relation to smaller and more compact vehicles.
Q:
Will this work with board sitting on cross bars?
A:
Yes, this SUP roof rack is very versatile, so it can be used with cars that have crossbars or without. So you can place the board on the rack pads on the crossbars and then secure it to those load bars, without running the straps through the vehicle doors. The instructions for that method is included with the rack and shown on our website for reference.
Q:
Will this work with golf cart?
A:
Unfortunately not -- none of ourremovable roof racksare designed for use on golf carts, and would not be guaranteed to work safely or securely on them.
Q:
Does the above item come with 2 sets of straps, one for the front and one for the back, and does it have padding for between the boards?
A:
The SUP car rack you are interested in comes with a pad that goes in between the roof of your car and the board. However, it does not include padding to go in between the 2 boards. We do sell pads which you can find here: roof rack pads. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by straps for the front and back. Do you mean in addition to the 2 shown in the pictures above? If so, the answer is no, it only comes with the set of 2 straps pictured. If you want to have additional security with the rack we would recommend purchasing front and back tie downs and you can find several options for there here: SUP tie downs and straps.
Q:
Will this work on an Ford Escape?
A:
This is a very versatile removable SUP roof rack, that can work for many vehicles. There are 3 different ways you can secure it to the roof top; if your rooftop is bare, you can either use the straps to run through all 4 doorways, or alternately, there are clips that can be used to secure it to the gutters/sills. The 3rd way is if you actually have crossbars - it can attach to those too; but if the rooftop is bare, it should work one of the other ways, as long as your Escape has 4 doorways!
Q:
I have a isup that I take about a mile to the water - it is 36" wide and 6" thick and 11'6" long, will this fit in your system and if yes, will 2 of my boards fit?
A:
This SUP transportation rack should be fine for your inflatable SUP at those dimensions, but whether it can support two of them will depend on how big the 2nd board is (basically with the width and thickness being the concern). There is not an exact measurement specification to guarantee where it will work for more than 1 board, so it could be a question-mark if they are both very large, thick boards.

This is an excellent product. I use it with 2 inflatable paddle boards (10" total thickness) which saves frequent pumping up during the summer. I have driven at highway speeds for short distances and the rack does not budge. At first the through-the-doors set up took a couple of tries to figure out, but after that it was a breeze. High speed wind noise is noticeable.

Our paddle boards are not hard and when I tried pulling the straps to tighten the boards it was more cutting into the paddle boards and actually dented the boards and would not get tight.

This carrier was pretty easy to install. I installed on a Honda CRV with factory crossbars. The instructions do not cover this specific installation, but it worked out great!

I used this to carry a single Wavestorm 9' 6" SUP. I'm not sure the padded straps would be long enough to wrap around the edges of a second board of the same size.

I placed the pads on top of the factory cross bars and looped the straps around the bars I cinched it down tight and placed a pool noodle around the straps where they went over the board to protect the board from damage from the hardware. I also tied-down to the front of the car.

The board was rock solid on our 3 hour trip with speeds up to 80mph. I didn't notice a significant increase in noise with it mounted on the roof.

The carry-bag is super convenient for storing the fin, tether, and sling while traveling and then for storing the carrier.

Overall I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend both the carrier and storeyourboard.com for getting it to me quick!

For the money, it is an excellent product. I hauled 2 SUPs 3 hours on the freeway without issue. I have a roof rack with cross bars on a Hyundai Santa Fe but still elected to loop the straps into the cabin. The roof rack did not have gaps for the straps to go through. Due to the higher speeds and to add more stability I also strapped down the front and rear with tow straps. I stopped twice to double check the tension. There was some slight loosening to the front tow strap and front SUP strap, but nothing that caused any movement.

Very Secure.. Great Purchase

We drove on the highway (75mph+) for over 3 hours and our paddleboard didn't budge on our SUV. Unfortunately, you will definitely need another person to help strap the board down, so solo trips may not be possible. Other than that, it was a great purchase and highly recommend!

Easy to install, no scuffing the boards. The temporary positioning might be a drawback for some.....removing them from car top after each use.

I bought this for my wife. She loves it! We have inflatable boards & this is the perfect way to carry the boards while inflated. Thus saving her time with inflating & deflating once at the water. It's easy to use & holds both boards securely in place. This is a great product & I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a safe & easy way to carry their boards!

The product works great and is very secure! However, I wanted something I could do all by myself if I wanted to go out for a quick ride in the morning, etc. It takes way more time and effort than I imagined. I finally had to get my husband to help me. On our trip this weekend, he tried to do it by himself and couldn't. It's too hard to keep the ropes in line with one person. My friend bought a system that's velcro and very secure. I may have to go with that so I can make the most out of my summer.

This is an extremely practical and affordable way to transport your board. I would avoid using it at high speeds such as on the highway for long distances but it's perfect for day trips to the water. It is easy to use- I had my board tied down within 5 minutes the first time I used it. I highly recommend it!

Easy to use, great price, quick to set up the board, and I can use this on my car or a friend's because it isn't permanent like many roof racks. Glad I found this at Store Your Board!
