Product Description

Overhead storage for your surfboards. This ceiling surfboard rack is a great way to store your boards and keep them secure, protected and out of the way. Surfboards are pretty big and bulky and let's face it, without a board rack they take up a lot of space and are always in the way. This ceiling rack lets you store your surfboards in the often unused space over your head, keeping them off the floor and safe.

Strong and secure. The rack is made from ultra strong, high strength steel tubing with a slight over-bend, meaning the rack ends point up just enough to make sure your surfboards don't fall out of the rack. Foam padding on the arms keeps your boards from sliding and protects them from damage. It comes as a set of two, each with two sides, so you can store two surfboards up to 38" wide each overhead.

  • 24" mounting surface against the ceiling
  • 14" gap for you boards to fit into
  • 25" inch long arm to support boards
  • 56" total width of both arms

Hi! I’m Andrew from StoreYourBoard.com. If you’re a surfer looking to store a bunch of surfboards, we’ve got a great double surfboard ceiling rack to show you today. This is a really easy way to get your surfboards up and out of the way and put to use that storage space above you that probably has nothing in it. As you can see right now, we have two surfboards above me and I’ll pull one down to show you how that works. The rack is a set of two arms and each rack has storage space for two surfboards or maybe a few more, as I’ll show you. It’s like a U-shape that comes down from the ceiling on each side.

There’s some relevant dimensions that are important for surfers. The first is the space from the ceiling to the rack’s arms and that’s 14 inches, which is plenty of space for your surfboard and gives you a lot of room to maneuver as you’re getting your surfboards in and out of the rack. Then the width of the rack arms is 25 inches, which is really ample amount of space for surfboards. If we have a board that was not hanging over the edge of the rack arm at all, that’s great. If you have something that’s much wider, then you can still use this rack. We recommend this rack. We’ve seen it overhang with surfboards all the way up to 36 inches wide. So you not only use it for longer longboard, plenty of shortboards, thrusters, fish, fun shapes, you’ve got your space.

We got a Lake Racer surfboard in the back right here. We’re not going to move that, but I am going to put this board back in to show you how easy it is to look. Just gently slide your board around the rack arms and then just shimmy it to the back. It’s a very secure rack. It’s angled up a bit, so if you apply some weight down to insert your surfboards, the angle does not fall down so that your boards might fall out. I’ll show you we’ll add one more surfboard because there is 14 inches of space. If you have a couple more boards, you can stack them right on top like that. That doesn’t have fins. If you have fins, you flip it over, face your fins up, you still should have plenty of room.

This is the Double Ceiling Surfboard Rack. Check it out on StoreYourBoard.com.

Q:
Does the Double Ceiling Rack come with two pieces to suspend both ends of the the boards?

A:
Yes! This double surfboard ceiling rack has two pieces that support the front and back of your boards. Since the two pieces are independent of each other, you can mount them at whatever distance you need to accommodate the length of your surfboards.

Q:
What depth do we need to drill for the fixing of the rack to the roof?

A:
The manufacturer of our double board ceiling rack recommends drilling an inch and a half. These racks are generally used in situations where they are mounted directly to the rafters; if there is thick drywall in the way sometimes a longer bolt will be needed.

Q:
For a 32" SUP, how much side clearance from the wall is needed to be able to place and remove the boards into this ceiling rack? For example, the space I have targeted in my garage for this ceiling rack has a wall that would be 10" from the edge of the arm?

A:
This double ceiling rack won't work for your 32" board in the spot you were thinking about in your garage. The arms that are holding it are 22" long - so add another 10" to your wall, and that is the same 10" that the board would be hanging over the arm, so you would have no room at all to get it on or off the rack in that position. Its alright the board hangs off the arms those 10 inches, it has enough arm support, but it just won't work to get it on and off the rack in that spot because there won't be any room.

With this expandable ceiling rack system (to hold up to 3 boards) some people will set it up to have a couple of levels going the same way, so you could possibly face two boards facing away from that garage wall, but it isn't as stable or strong a system when you set it up with them all going the same way, but its another good ceiling rack system.

Otherwise, you might want see if you have space for a wall rack, if you can't work around that garage wall in the way of a ceiling rack system.

Q:
How much weight do these hold?

A:
Our double board ceiling rack does not have an exact weight maximum specification provided by the manufacturer. Its made out of high-strength steel box tubing (5/8"x5/8") so is a very strong rack. Also, it will securely hold SUPs as well as surfboards, and SUPs can run very heavy. I don't have a good weight estimate to give you, but we find this will hold most SUPs or surfboards, and store them conveniently out of the way, in overhead space. Its hung with heavy duty lag bolts, which are included, so the other key, as with all wall or ceiling racks, is proper mounting. If you hang the rack properly according to instructions, it will perform to its maximum ability to hold your boards securely.

Q:
I have 2 foam 36" wide boards, that are 9'6" L. Will they work on this ceiling rack?

A:
Our double Surf ceiling rack could work fine for your Stand-Up Paddle Boards, as it is a rack that can work for surfboards or SUPs, and has lots of room for thick boards. Its arms that hold your board are 22" long, so they almost cover 2/3rds of your SUP's width, which is normally fine in most cases -- but you might want to consider a ceiling rack with longer arms because your boards are fairly wide...such as this expandable SUP ceiling system, that has 33" wide arms; it comes with options for surfboard and SUP levels if you have a combination of boards. The length of your boards should not be a problem for either rack system, as you can set up the arms as far apart as you need to support your boards' lengths.

Q:
Will the 24" surface bar turn 90 degrees to accommodate rafters that run perpendicular to the picture?

A:
The manufacturer of this double surfboard ceiling rack does not recommend trying to mount it with the plate rotated 90 degrees, to accommodate your rafters' direction. The ceiling rack won't have the strength the rack system needs to securely hold your boards when mounted that way, and it is not advised.

Q:
Thinking about this product to carry beach chair and umbrella. Any one else done this with your rack??

A:
I haven't seen - or heard - of anyone using this board rack for a bike to transport something like a chair and an umbrella. I can't recommend it because its not what the bike rack is built for -- how well it could *possibly* work would depend on whether you could get the chair and umbrella to sit right in the rack and secure them there - and the length of the umbrella, even broken down, would have to not get in the way of biking; as it is the bike rack is meant for shortboards. There could be issues that we can't imagine. Otherwise, it works for a board.

All I needed was my drill and impact driver, first to drill the pilot holes.I
I used the impact driver for the lag screws, which I changed to 3" to make up for the 5/8 " sheet rock and the thickness of the rack tubing.
The whole thing took me 15 mins but I'm a skilled tradesman.
Thanks again ....!!!!

The frame design and frame material are excellent. Plenty of room to stack boards on both sides of the rack. My longboard with a large fin can rest fin up without touching the ceiling. One thing that could be improved is the foam covering. The foam is adequate but there could be better quality foam that would be more durable.

Insane!!!

Purchased this recently to put up 3 boards in my garage. Technically it's only designed for two, but if your boards will stack while on the ground...they will stack on this! Works very well, tidy, well built...a good product!!!
