Product Description

For serious surf travelers, these travel car roof racks have everything you need. First, these roof racks may be the world's smallest roof racks as they fold up into a pouch that is only 6x4x3" and weighs less than 2 pounds, so they are great to toss into your surf bag for the rental car on your next big trip.

This universal roof rack also has an innovative closure system that is more secure than other racks but allows your boards to be more easily accessible. Most universal roof racks have 2 closures that tighten in 2 places - 1 under your car roof or roof bars and 1 on top around your surfboards. This rack has only 1 closure that tightens in 1 place - under your car roof or roof bars - so you only need to tighten the racks in 1 place. Around the top of your surfboards fits an S clip that you can open to load or unload your boards but that tightens automatically when you tigten the 1 closure under your roof or roof rack bars. Overall the system is simpler to secure your boards and quicker and easier to load and unload your boards!

Surfboard load capacity is not sacrificed by the innovative roof rack system or its low bulk and low profile - these racks can comfortably fit approximately 6 shortboards or 3 longboards, depending on board thicknesses. As you see in the picture, the racks are holding 3 surfboard bags that contain multiple boards in each bag.

Note that these roof racks do not come with pads so they maintain minimal bulk and because they are intended for traveling, with surfboards in bags, as shown in the pictures. You could always pair the racks your existing roof rack pads, too, for full time use.

  • Racks folds up into pouch 6x4x3"
  • Fits approximately 1-6 shortboards or 1-3 longboards
Q:
Will the straps leak inside the car when it rains?

A:
For this type of universal surfboard roof rack, it shouldn't leak into your car if you are driving in the rain. In normal use, if running the straps through the doorways, the doorways should close tight enough that rain shouldn't be an issue, in normal conditions.

Q:
What is the difference between this product and the "Roof Racks | Universal Surfboard Car Rack" product? Is it just the amount of boards able to be held or the material or what?

A:
Both of these transportation racks are made by the same company and operate in the same basic way, but there is big difference between them, as follows:

1) This one, seen here: https://www.storeyourboard.com/surfboard-travel-roof-racks-car-surf-racks/, was originally designed as a bare-bones transportation rack you might use for rental vehicles on a surf vacation, say - so it is very lightweight set of straps that you can easily fold up in your hands and fit in luggage. It does not include extra padding for the top of the vehicle - so that is one downside....and they also can get tangled up sometimes, but otherwise, they cocoon the boards in the same way as the more expensive rack, and they attach to the vehicle the same ways as well.

2) The more expensive version, seen here: https://www.storeyourboard.com/surfboard-universal-car-roof-racks/, have the added protection of foam parts that protect the vehicle's top, and this design addition also makes them easier to use than the other version. It is a thicker & heavier system, so not as lightweight as the other one.

Otherwise, they are basically the same and have the same capacity for how many boards they can potentially hold, and how they attach to a vehicle.
