This innovative and secure universal surfboard roof rack has everything you need to get your surfboards to the water safely and securely. It's got your boards covered - literally - as foam padding cocoons around your surfboards, providing protection from your car's roof and any vibration damage during travel. The padding also extends around your board's rails, so you don't have to worry about too tight straps cracking your boards.
These racks are truly universal because they can secure to your car around your existing hard roof rack bars, or through your doors if you don't have a roof rack system on your car. Roll the rack up into its pouch and take it with you on your next destination surf trip and know that they'll fit your rental car.
The truly unique feature of this surfboard car rack is its single loop closure "lockdown" system that secures the rack to your car and your surfboards to the rack. This rack has only 1 closure that tightens in 1 place - under your car roof or roof bars - so you only need to tighten the racks in 1 place (instead of 2 on other roof racks). Securing around the top of your surfboards fits an S clip that you can open to load or unload your boards but that tightens automatically when you tigten the single closure. Overall the system is simpler to secure your surfboards and also quicker and easier to load and unload!
Surfboard load capacity is not sacrificed by the innovative roof rack system - these racks fit on average, 1-6 shortboards or 1-3 longboards.
Reduce road noise from straps If you experience excess noise from the tie down straps, we recommend giving the straps 2+ twists to prevent any "flutter" noise at high speeds.
Do they come with locks?
These board transportation racks are a very basic option that works well for transporting a board, especially on bare-roofed vehicles. They don't have built-in locks to help with theft prevention. One could use something like dock locks, seen here, in conjunction with the transportation rack, to help lock the board(s) for theft prevention. Dock locks are not a transportation rack, but you can secure your boards to them and a third item to prevent someone from removing the boards. One locking cable comes with them, along with a jaw clamp that can attach to the a leash plug or fin box, and the locking cable -- that secures one board, but if you have more boards to secure you can buy additional jaw clamps to add more boards to the same locking cable.
Recently purchased the Curve soft racks for my vacation in the Outer Banks. Going 70-75 mph on the highway produced a little shifting of my boards but no bouncing and remained secured for each 3 hour trip.
I particularly like the padded design as it helps to further stabilize the boards and offers ample protection for the rails when you tighten the straps down.
All of the hardware is heavy duty so it should last for quite a few years. I might even buy another one just in case these somehow become discontinued.
Overall, excellent product!!
