Product Description

The Three Boat Freestanding Kayak Storage is a space-saving way to store up to three kayaks in one freestanding system. The rack is designed to be used indoors or outdoors in freshwater environments and is backed by a Lifetime Warranty! While the rack is built to withstand freshwater and rain, it is not designed for use in saltwater environments or on a dock near saltwater! (If you're looking for more corrosion-resistant racks for outdoor use in saltwater areas check these out.) The frame of the rack is made from 12 gauge thick x 1.25" square steel construction which provides a rugged and stable storage system which can support up to 250lbs! The frame is powder coated in a corrosion resistant epoxy paint that allows it to be used outdoors.

This freestanding rack holds one kayak on its bottom contoured foam pads and two kayaks in the J-style arms. The vertical supports of the rack have predrilled holes along its length so that the arms can be positioned wherever you need them to. This creates a modular system that lets you adjust the arms accordingly to the size of your boats. The J-style arms are wrapped in a soft rubber sheathing to prevent scratches, scuffs, and pressure point distortion. Another great feature about this kayak stand is that the bottom feet are fully adjustable. This lets you balance the rack and get it perfectly level even when it's on an uneven surface.

Q:
Can you store a stand up paddleboard on this?

A:
Our three boat stand has arms that work better for kayaks on its two top levels; it might work alright for some SUPS, but the arms are designed more for kayaks. Combination arms can currently be special ordered, to customize this rack system to have arms for SUPs and kayaks, contact us if interested. Some alternatives to consider include this SUP & Kayak freestanding rack systemthat has a variety of options available;this kayak stand that could support a SUP; this two (or three with expansion) kayak stand that can work for SUPs, or this two kayak stand works well for SUPs.

Q:
Any way to lock them in?

A:
These kayak racks don't have a built in lock system, but you could use something like these kayak locks, available in a few sizes for different sized boats, to secure your boat to the rack system and/or another stationary object. Another kayak lock option are these kayak dock locks.

Q:
Is this rack suitable for outside storage? I have an area on the side of my garage that is concrete where I'd like to keep it, but it is outside and exposed to sun/rain/wind. Can this rack handle that?

A:
Our three boat stand can withstand outdoor use in some areas but not all places: It is not recommended for use outdoors if you live in a saltwater area. So if you live on or near the ocean, or near a saltwater canal, bay or sound, it would not be the right choice for the salt air and moisture it would be exposed to. However, if you aren't near a saltwater environment, it is fine for use outdoors in freshwater areas. If you're looking for more corrosion-resistant racks for outdoor use in saltwater areas check these optionsmeant for that environment.

Q:
It says not for salt water environments. We want to use it in a closed garage that is 2 blocks from the beach. Will it withstand salty air?

A:
This kayak rack really wouldn't be recommend for outdoor use where the air is salty. It would be subject to corrosion; you would want to look at alternatives that are stainless steel, aluminum or other marine grade materials that can withstand salt air, such as the ones found in our collection here: Outdoor Kayak Racks - Saltwater/air.

Q:
We live in Minnesota and plan to store outdoors year round. Will this be able to withstand winter conditions?

A:
As I believe your winters can be fairly harsh, I would *not* recommend this freestanding rack for outdoors in your area overwinter. It has a corrosion resistant powder coating - but subjected to extreme weather it could break down quickly. One of these "saltwater" rack options might be worth considering, since they are made from materials that are either stainless steel or other materials that wouldn't rust or corrode in harsher environments.

Q:
Can I place a 16 ft canoe on the bottom with a width of about 36 to 37 inches with two 17 foot kayaks on the top two tiers with a combined weight of 161 pounds for storage in my garage. Otherwise can you recommend another rack that would work better.

A:
This freestanding rack can support up to 250 lbs, so weight-wise, your boats would be fine on it, but there are a couple of other things to look at. You have some fairly long boats - this stand has a fixed width of 4 feet - so boats will have 6 or more feet hanging over on each side of the rack (with 4 feet of the boat supported in the middle). You would normally want a little more of the center of your boat supported. it may be okay, but it could be a concern. You can place the rack arms at various heights, so you would probably have room to fit a 36/37 inch wide canoe on the bottom, and have enough room for the two kayaks on top if they aren't too wide (The rack's height is 81 inches, for reference). The shapes of canoes can be an issue on some racks, so that is one more question-mark on how well your boats would fit on this stand. There is a chance it could work, but those are some of my concerns.

Some alternatives would be this freestanding rack that you can set the arms at whatever distance needed to support longer kayaks - if you think that might be of interest, let me know so I can verify the cradles will work for the canoe - or we can possibly substitute on set of cradles that would work for the canoe, another alternative would be this log rack, which isn't much longer in width to support long boats, but it has a build that might be a bit more stable for long boats and it also fits canoes well (and supports up to 100 lbs on each level).

Perfect rack for what we needed

Used in an rv

I purchased this rack so that I can keep my kayaks out of the winter weather. I got the three kayak unit so that I could use the top two rack positions and have open space underneath.

I removed my 11 ft rv couch that I didn't use and put this rack in its place in the living room slideout. The finish on the rack is very nice ad actually looks good inside. I used plumbing strap over pieces of styrofoam pool floaties to secure it to the floor. I'll use cinch straps to secure the kayaks to the rack when I need to move the rv.

Possibly the first person to use it this way!

Btw, I also have the Malone kayak dollies to get them to the water. I get frequent comments about how well they seem to work and the fold flat design.

Great products, would definitely by from this manufacturer again.

I ordered this for outdoor storage of my three kayaks. I was able to put it together in just over an hour (some of the time was figuring out which parts were which in the somewhat unclear black and white diagrams). It fits under the eave of my house and is sturdy—I won't have to worry about it toppling over in the wind. It's easy to get the kayaks on and off. I was trying to fit the rack against the house between two windows. Because it's very adjustable, I was able to get all three kayaks on without obstructing any part of the view from the windows. I also liked the fact that it's free standing so I didn't have to drill any holes into the siding.

Super sturdy, easy to put together.. Took no more than 30 minutes. No worries about it holding our three sit on top kayaks, one of which is a tandem. Stable, looks good, small footprint compared to three kayaks piled on the ground. Worth every penny!

Nice rack!

The 3 boat kayak rack was very easy to assemble, and is really sturdy. It was a quick, easy way to get the boats organized without drilling holes in the concrete walls.

We have 3 kayaks and had nowhere to put them. Did not fit in shed so we put them in the garage on my wife's side. Needless to say, she was not happy. We ordered the rack, was easy to put together and put it against a wall of the shed and covered with a tarp. Out of the wsy, out of sight. Perfect.
