Q:
It says it can handle 2 kayaks at 70 pounds total, but one of the lightest kayak is approx 40 pounds (the one I'm looking at) so if I buy 2, this rack won't hold the weight, is that correct or am I not understanding?
A:
Our Two Kayak Transportation Rack can hold two kayaks that are each up to 70lbs - each cradle can support up to 70 lbs to hold one kayak of that weight. I apologize that the information on the listing was not clear when you saw it, but as long as neither of your kayaks is more than 70 lbs, you should be fine transporting both.
Q:
We have a extended cab silverado with no rack on top, what do we need to have a complete set up? Is there any locking system for overnight stays while traveling?
A:
This kayak roof rack requires that you have existing crossbars on your vehicle, for it to attach to. It attaches to most factory crossbars, but it sounds like you don't have any on your Silverado. Without existing crossbars, you would need to look at some universal removable systems, which normally require they run through 4 doorways of a vehicle, and your extended cab may not be long enough for that set-up to work properly or safely. However, here is an example of some removable crossbars made for trucks that *may* work for your Silverado: /removable-crossbars-for-trucks-and-suvs/ You would then need additional racks and possibly additional tie-downs to mount your kayak to those removable cross bars - which could include locking tie-down straps.

An alternative is a rack system that would fit in your truck bed, such as this one: /surf-sup-and-kayak-rack-thule-xsporter-pro/ but we would need the year of your Silverado to know if its compatible, should that type be of interest interested.

You can also find some additional options for locking kayaks here.
