Product Description

The Malone SeaWing is a unique product in the world of kayak auto racks because of its single saddle, bottom down design. The single saddle design is especially nice because of the mid-point mounting. The mid-point mounting means you can lock the rack into place on the outer edges of your roof rack's crossbar. This frees up more room on your roof for other items including a second SeaWing. This is one of the only kayak roof racks on the market that allows you to carry two kayaks bottom down on one vehicle -sweet! Additionally, the single cradle design eliminates the need to individually adjust each saddle on other kayak roof carriers that use a 4-point system.

This V-cradle style kayak carrier is built from a flexible, but still rigid enough plastic that allows it to conform to the shape of your boat's hull. The low profile, bottom down design makes this rack more fuel efficient than other style racks like the J-rack. The SeaWing will work with most vehicles thanks to its Jawz universal mounting hardware. The Jawz system allows it to fit on round, square, and most factory oval cross rails. The Jawz locking system requires no tools and can be put on by hand - this makes it easy to take on and off and to transfer to other vehicles.

  • 27" long x 6" wide x 5" tall
  • Fits kayaks up to 32" wide
  • Load capacity = 70lbs
  • Fits most round, square, and most factory oval crossbars
  • (2) V-Style cradles
  • (2) 12ft cam buckle straps
  • (2) Jawz universal fit mounting blocks
  • (4) 50mm & 60mm bolts with T-Knobs
  • (2) Bow and stern lines

Car rack accessories should make kayaking easier and more enjoyable by allowing you to maximize your time on the water. At Malone, we strive to give the consumer the best value in the market with every product we make, providing simple-to-use innovative solutions to your transport needs through state-of-the-art engineering and design. The Malone SeaWing kayak carrier provides safe and simple transport for nearly all kayaks and features a midpoint mounting system that allows you to fit two kayaks in a bottom-down position even on smaller vehicles with factory cross rails. Its low-profile design also helps improve gas mileage, and the corrosion-resistant composite construction provides a secure platform that protects your kayak during transport. Installation of the SeaWing is quick and easy on any type of cross rails – round, square, or factory oval with our universal Jawz adapter. Simply use the bolts and T-knobs provided to attach the carriers to the cross rail.

Before loading your kayak, you should pre-dress the straps on the carriers and place the straps over the front and rear of the vehicle. Lift the kayak onto the rear of the vehicle and slide it up and into the carriers until it’s centered between the two carriers and resting evenly. At this point, you’re free to tie down and secure the kayak whenever you’re ready. Simply bring the front and rear straps over the kayak. Thread the free end of each strap through the slot at the inner side of the carrier and back up to the outer slot. Thread the free end through the buckle and tighten. The SeaWing will gently flex to the kayak with superior hold and protection. Remember to always secure your kayak with bow and stern lines for added security. It’s really that easy and that affordable. If you found some free time to get out on the water, you don’t want to waste any of it struggling with loading and unloading your kayak. Malone SeaWing is another revolution in the paddle sports market that’s changing the way you get there.

Q:
My cross bars are 2 1/2 inches wide and oval on top side. will this fit product fit?

A:
This kayak cradle transportation rack should probably work fine for your crossbars, but if you send us the make, model and year of your vehicle we can verify this further for this product.

Q:
Will it attach securely to the roof crossbars of a 2011 Subaru Outback?

A:
Our SeaWing V-Cradle Kayak Rack works with all Subaru factory crossbars, using the universal mounting hardware included with the kayak cradle. So it should work with your 2011 outback out of the box.

Q:
Can it carry/hold a Pelican Tidewater 80/SS sit-on-top kayak as the hull is not completely v-shaped?

A:
This kayak cradle works for most sit-on-top kayaks. Taking a look at your Pelican Tidewater 80/SS, it appears like it would work fine with your boat's hull.

Q:
Will it fit my 2014 Ford Escape, which has factory installed cross bars?

A:
Our V-Cradle Kayak Rack will fit your 2014 Ford Escape's factory crossbars, with the mounting hardware included in the kit.

Q:
Will the Malone SeaWing V-Cradle Kayak Auto Rack work on a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe factory installed roof rack that is 3 inches and oval shaped?

A:
The Seawing Kayak Cradle works for the factory-installed crossbars on a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, according to the manufacturer's fit guide, and will attach with the standard mounting hardware included in the kit.

Q:
I have a 12ft hobbie outback that weighs 99lbs. Will it work?

A:
This kayak cradle's load capacity is a maximum of 70 lbs, so it would not be suited for your Hobie Mirage at a weight of 99 pounds. Most of the cradle or J type roof racks max out at about a 75 pound load, but here are some more roof rack options for consideration.

Q:
Is the load capacity 70lbs per cradle-140lbs for two cradles?

A:
The SeaWing kayak roof rack has a total load capacity of 70 lbs, according to the manufacturer's specifications. That is not per cradle, but for the system of the two cradles in use, so it wouldn't be recommended for kayaks over that load capacity.

Q:
Can it be used with bare roof car racks?

A:
No, these Kayak V-Cradles need to mount to crossbars on a roofttop, they can't be used on bare roofs. There are some removable crossbars available, such as this Versarail System, that attach to the rooftop through running straps in 4 doorways of a vehicle; one can then use a hard rack like the V-Cradle to attach to them, or other forms of tie-downs to secure their kayak to the rooftop.
