Product Description

This bike rack is a "tray" or "wheel mount" style hitch mount bike rack which makes it fairly unique in the world of hitch mount bike racks. This wheel mount style rack supports your bike from underneath the wheels as opposed to from the bike's frame. This style of bike carrier offers a few advantages. First off, most people find them easier to use because there is no delicate balancing act required to get your bike put in place - you simply just drop it into the wheel slots. The other advantage to a tray or wheel mount style hitch rack is that it can accommodate a wider variety of bike types. Frame style carriers sometimes only work with bikes that have a straight upper frame tube, but the wheel mount style can hold more than that. Beach cruisers, women's bikes, and many other different bikes have slanted or curved upper frames which make them a pain to get in a frame style carrier.

This is an hitch bike rack that has expandable design that can hold up to 4 bikes at once. The base unit is built to transport two bikes, but an (included) extension arm can be added on to allow this bike rack to hold up to 4 bikes. This extension is easily added with just a shear pin, so installation is very simple. This allows you to not adjust the size of the rack to meet your needs so you don't have to have a large rack for just one or two bikes. Your bikes are held in place 3 different ways. First, your bikes tires drop into deep wheel slots that help keep your bike in place. Second, velcro straps are included that let you secure your wheel tightly to the wheel slots. Third, there are individual "grabber arms" that reach out and grab on to the top of your bike's frame. These grabber arms have a rubber coated clamp that can fits frame tubes up to 2.25" in diameter. You can tighten down this clamp with a large knob, so securing you bikes is as easy!

The whole rack is made out of heavy duty steel powder coated black, so it is built to last.
One of the biggest complaints about hitch mount bike racks is that they don't allow easy access to rear doors on the back of SUVs or a truck's tailgate. Fortunately, the Wheel Mount Hitch Bike Rack addresses this complaint by having the ability to swivel down. The entire upper arm assembly can be folded down by removing a pin making it super easy to still access the back of your vehicle.

Q:
Why does the product manual say not to use this rack on a Motorhome? Can it be safely used on a RV?
A:
This Wheel Mounted Hitch Bike Rack should not be used on a motor home or RV. It is our understanding that is because of the increased amount of stress and forces caused by hanging the bike rack off the back of a longer/stiffer RV frame, that creates a lot more movement than a car -- so just isn't a secure or safe way to transport your bikes. We do have this bike rack, with option for 2 or 4 bike version, that is meant for RVs and campers, for your consideration.
